OPSEU Joint Trusteed Benefit Fund (OJTBF) is an Employee Life and Health Trust (ELHT) operating on a not-for-profit basis since 1996. Operating out of Toronto, Ontario, OJTBF partners with not-for-profit organizations to provide them with affordable employee benefit plans.

**Position Overview**
OJTBF is seeking a permanent, full-time Underwriting Analyst to deliver superior support, communication and service to our internal underwriting, sales and account management teams, participating organizations and plan members. With a strong financial background and underwriting knowledge within the Canadian group insurance industry, the Underwriting Analyst will ensure underwriting deliverables to internal and external stakeholders are consistently and accurately achieved.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Analyze industry, demographics, benefit offerings and claiming patterns to establish rates for new and existing group benefit plans.
- Support our internal account management team and participating organizations by preparing timely plan design alternate costings.
- Support the new business sales team by analyzing new business opportunities, preparing quotations for release to prospects and preparing implementation documents.
- Provide value-added underwriting by continually seeking opportunities to maximize deliverables and enhance OJTBF’s Underwriting team.
- Support the Director of Underwriting with all underwriting functions such as client reporting/experience analysis, annual renewals/audits, meetings etc.
- Prepare quarterly premium/claim experience reports for clients as requested.
- Assist in the preparation and release of OJTBF’s annual renewal.
- Analyze client experience results and plan designs to determine emerging trends and/or uncover potential new business opportunities.
- Foster and maintain strong and collaborative working relationships with our insurance partners and third-party providers.
- Provide underwriting updates to the Director of Underwriting and Executive Director as required.
- Support all other areas within the organization as needed to ensure business objectives are met on a timely basis.
- Act as a resource to Sales and Service with respect to market trends and benefit issues.
- Maintain up-to-date recordkeeping and files for all underwriting activities and correspondence.
- Build personal, professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications and establishing personal networks.
**Qualifications**
- An Undergraduate university degree preferred (or an equivalent combination of education, such as industry relevant designations, and suitable work experience).
- Minimum Experience: 3 years or more related work experience, including demonstrated and proven skills in Group insurance underwriting, with an understanding of fully insured, non-refund/refund, ASO, and cost-plus financial arrangements.
- Knowledge and experience working closely with the not-for-profit sector and familiarity with collective agreements, the bargaining process and unionized environments will be considered an asset.
- Strong mathematical and analytical aptitude
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Excel and Word) and proficiency with videoconferencing tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
**Skills and Competencies**
- Understanding of the group insurance industry in areas of underwriting, claims, account management, rate making, renewals, plan design costings, amendments, and provider relationships.
- Ability to make well-balanced decisions that take effective risk management, financial disciplines, and organizational/customer needs into account.
- Ability to communicate financial concepts, analysis and results in a clear, concise, easy to understand manner (written and verbal), including the ability to interact with both colleagues and external provider representatives.
- Strategic and creative thinker focused on finding solutions to unique customer needs
- Motivated self-starter and able to work independently.
- Demonstrated ability to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage multiple priorities.
- Self motivated in achieving goals and works well in a team environment.
- Strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work cooperatively and be willing to assist others.
- Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
