We’re a Canadian-owned and BC-based energy company taking steps toward a lower-carbon energy future by providing renewable energy, natural gas and electricity to more than 1.2 million customers.

We’re looking for new talent to join us as we transform BC’s energy future. Our diverse team of more than 2,600 employees is committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong and grow. Join us and let’s work together for a better BC. Position Overview
Building relationships comes naturally to you because of your authentic, genuine and trusting demeanour. You have a passion for learning about and understanding Indigenous cultures, traditions and histories and understand the importance of inclusion and fairness. You see both sides of every situation and use your negotiating skills to find common solutions through transparent and honest conversations.

As our Manager, Community and Indigenous Relations, you’ll lead strategic, tactical consultation and engagement with Indigenous groups, municipalities, and community groups to support FortisBC projects. Multiple projects will be part of your portfolio but the main project will include the Gas Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Project where you will be part of a team building a more reliable natural gas system for our more than one million customers across British Columbia.

Reporting to the Project Director, External Relations you’ll maintain an awareness of activities that affect business development potential and will advise senior management on the challenges, complexities, and opportunities of projects in British Columbia by using your interpersonal skills to build, maintain and strengthen our relationships with Indigenous communities. You’ll enact our Statement of Indigenous Principles to support the development and execution of FortisBC’s projects and initiatives.

**In this role, you will**:
Collaborate with our leadership teams to deliver comprehensive Indigenous and stakeholder (inclusive of local governments, community groups, and opinion leaders) engagement plans to support the successful growth and operation of our projects.
Ensure all regulatory process engagement and consultation requirements are met and documented.
Ensure our work is guided by our Statement of Indigenous Principles and provide leadership to building and maintaining effective relationships with Indigenous Peoples across British Columbia.
Lead and facilitate the negotiation/renewal of agreements with municipalities and Indigenous communities (e.g. capacity funding agreements, Impact Benefit Agreements).
Identify and coordinate strategic and tactical relationships between our project leadership members, Indigenous communities and stakeholders that may impact FortisBC projects.
Identify and execute opportunities to move engagement beyond transactional partnerships to a long-term working relationship philosophy.
Provide leadership and direction to the Community & Indigenous Relations team.

**What it takes**:
A bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications or other related disciplines from a recognized program, and a minimum of five years of recent and related experience and demonstrated success in strategic consultation and engagement.
A detail-oriented and analytical mindset with exceptional negotiating skills.
A genuine and authentic personality that creates and builds trusting and lasting relationships.
A passion for learning, understanding and supporting Indigenous communities.
Strategic and able to understand the overall picture of any situation to achieve long term success.
Additional Information
This position will require occasional evening and weekend work and travel away from the base office to attend meetings and deliver presentations within FortisBC's geographic area of coverage. Valid drivers’ license also required.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
