**What Does a Core Operator Do?**:
With instructions from the Patrol Foreperson, the Core Operators will work together to perform repairs and maintain the highway infrastructure to meet the performance requirements of the Area Maintenance Contract. This could include physically demanding duties such as pothole repairs, installing small signs, end treatment and guiderail repairs, as well as debris pick up while assisting the emergency response operators and patrollers on the highway. You may be required to operate a loader, crash truck, sign truck, and participate in winter operations as an equipment operator, patroller or crash truck operator.

**As a Core Operator, You Will**:

- Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants in compliance with Miller Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies and ensure contractual HSE obligations for the staff and public are met
- Perform repairs to the highway, including but not limited to, pothole, installing small signs, end treatments, guiderails, washing bridges, sweeping, grass cutting, etc.
- Become familiar with performance requirements of an Area Maintenance Contract.
- Operate heavy equipment, including winter combination units, spreaders, crash trucks, and loaders
- Assist in providing traffic control at work zones and at accident scenes. Set up and take down OTM book 7 traffic closures
- Aid the Emergency Response team to implement an emergency plan in situations such as spills, accidents, inclement weather, etc.
- Conduct daily circle checks of equipment before operating
- Clean and maintain equipment and perform minor repairs. Ensure fuel and other fluid levels are at optimum levels
- Perform housekeeping duties to ensure the shop, common areas, and exterior of the yard are clean and safe
- Maintain accurate documentation of hours of service, fuel records, time sheets, etc.
- Other duties as assigned

**What You'll Bring**:

- DZ license required
- 1+ years’ experience in road maintenance and knowledge of OTM book 7 through prior positions, including snow-plow operation, ERU Crash Truck Operation, ERU Patrolling and Winter Patrolling.

- Flexibility and organizational skills to multi-task and manage time in a fast-paced environment with rapidly shifting priorities
- Mechanically inclined to operate small tools and heavy equipment
- Basic computer skills and effective communication (both written and verbal) to accurately document daily activities.
- Willingness to remain on call on a regular rotation and work assigned day, night and weekend shifts.
- Ability to perform manual labour and lift up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable with working and driving in inclement weather conditions
