**The Toronto District School Board adheres to equitable hiring, employment, and promotion practices.**:

- Reporting to a designated manager, the Communications Advisor will take leadership and responsibility for developing communications strategies to reach the TDSB’s parents, public school electors and key community and government stakeholders. The Communications Advisor will work with the Government, Public and Community Relations team, the Board of Trustees, Board departments and senior management to advise and solve communications challenges and research and write compelling copy to promote the Board’s objectives, policies and decisions. The Communications Advisor will be committed to service excellence in the delivery of communications strategies, tactics and communications products. _
- Your experience in corporate communications will help the TDSB reach its many stakeholders and strengthen the Board’s reputation as a leader in public education in the City of Toronto.**Summary of Duties**:

- Develop and implement strategic communications, special events, marketing, issues, government relations, and media relations plans and respond to media requests to support the internal and external communications of the Board;
- Write, edit and oversee the distribution of TDSB’s internal and external e-newsletters to support Board departments and elected officials in communicating with parents, guardians and constituents;
- Research and write web copy, briefing notes, speeches, news releases, FAQs, key messages, media statements and backgrounders to assist departments, senior managers, Board committees and elected officials to communicate with the TDSB’s many internal and external audiences;
- Develop communications strategies and tactics to help Board departments promote their programs and services and reach their target audiences both internal and external;
- Collaborate with the marketing, issues management, media relations and social media divisions to ensure that decisions and policies of the Board and corporate news reach the TDSB’s broad audience base;
- Provide strategic communications advice to department managers and senior elected officials in resolving communications challenges and the management of contentious and sensitive issues;
- Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services; and
- Other duties as assigned.
- Three year College Diploma in a related field (e.g. Public Relations, Journalism) with a minimum three years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to draft clear and compelling internal and external communications;
- Experience in writing for both Web, electronic and print media;
- Strong strategic thinking and planning skills with a demonstrated track record;
- Demonstrated experience in developing and successfully implementing communications strategies;
- Experience working with and advising elected officials and senior management;
- Strong client service orientation and commitment to excellence, with a proven track record for successfully delivering measurable communications results;
- Strong project management and organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure, managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines;
- Proven skills in problem solving, consultation, and negotiating with staff at all levels;
- Ability to approach communications tactics with innovation, contributing new ideas and concepts to realize objectives in a cost-efficient and effective manner;
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a creative team environment;
- Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity.

**Assets**:

- Familiarity with layout and design, photography, print and video productions and web content; and

**Special Requirements**:

- Requires some travel across the TDSB.
- Will be required to attend Board and committee meetings as needed.
