The Cultivated B (TCB) is a highly innovative and science-driven biotechnology and bioengineering company from Germany, focusing on developing and manufacturing high-precision systems for cellular agriculture and pharmaceutical industry.
Our recently opened facility in Burlington, ON, is focused on the development and production of bioreactors, photobioreactors and advanced machineries for cellular agriculture and precision fermentation. Our integrated R&D center within the same facility is an Ontario hub for innovation in bioprocess design and optimization, plant-based engineering, food technology and scaled alternative protein production.
As a member of the Canadian leadership team, the primary function of the Plant Manager is to establish and lead key manufacturing processes/initiatives to ensure that Production objectives are met, in accordance with safety, quality, and customer requirements. The Plant Manager will also develop manufacturing strategic direction, manage labor/capacity, define the roles for key technical manufacturing staff, and more. Reporting to the CEO, the Plant Manager will oversee the entire manufacturing operation at the plant which involves:
**Key Responsibilities**
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate daily plant operations in conjunction with the Canada CEO and the German product development team.
- Establish, localize, and coordinate production activities/processes along with procurement, maintenance, IT, production planning, safety, and quality control activities to obtain optimal use of employee and equipment resources
- Plan and implement changes to machinery and equipment, production systems and methods of work
- Communicate and coordinate with engineering to maintain machines and equipment to improve production and quality of products
- Develop production schedules and maintain an inventory of raw materials and finished products (bioreactors)
- Establish and define quality control inspections
- Hire, supervise and train or oversee training of employees in the use of new equipment or production techniques
- Work with HR to develop a pipeline of production employees
- Organize and maintain inventory
- Read blueprints and drawings
- Plan and manage the establishment of departmental budget
- Design roles for, supervise, direct and coordinate production personnel activities
- Interact with plant leadership team to establish production and quality standards
- University Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent, in a field related to mechanical engineering, food processing, or pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Minimum of ten (10) years manufacturing experience in positions of increasing responsibility including five (5) plus years in a management role including Plant Superintendent or Plant Manager
- Experience in manufacturing and assembly of stainless steel equipment (ex: food and beverage, chemical or pharmaceutical vessels) or components required, mechatronics experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working in a rapidly scaling industrial manufacturing or biotechnology environment
- Working knowledge of accounting and financial aspects of manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of best practices and relevant systems within production.
- Effective communicator in both written and verbal correspondence as well as an effective presenter.
- Detail oriented and able to manage multiple tasks
- Personal initiative, innovation and leadership skills in setting and achieving goals
- Highly motivated, driven and results oriented
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced manufacturing operation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively solve problems both on an individual and collaborative approach.
