**About the Role**

We are looking for a strong underwriter to lead the Central and Eastern Canada Property team Reporting to and working closely with the Head Property & Specialty Canada, you will support the achievement of the business goals and talent development. You will be leading and mentoring a team of Underwriters supporting the General Property business in Canada. This will involve steering and coordinating the marketing activities and effectively developing team resources by allocating workflow in the most effective way.

This is an opportunity to foster teamwork and team spirit, to empower and mentor team members, and to support and develop talent. Your keen awareness of productivity, efficiency, and initiative for improvements will be crucial to success in this role.

In addition to the leadership role, you will provide underwriting expertise to our internal and external clients and ensure compliance standards and underwriting rigor are in line with guidelines. You will be relied upon to support the team in achieving high quality underwriting and production in alignment with our General Property strategy. You will lead new launches, initiatives, and a go-to-market approach to ensure client commitments are executed.

Key responsibilities include:

- Underwriting: Leading the underwriting of individual accounts in the Central and Eastern region portfolio and implementing and executing strategies on International business. You will ensure that all underwriting standards and compliance expectations are met, and team coaching is provided on all underwriting aspects.
- Leadership. You will attract, select, develop, and retain Underwriter talent to meet current business needs and prepare for future challenges and growth goals. There will be a strong emphasis on partner management, interacting with Senior Management and multiple stakeholders.
- Business Origination: Working closely together with Customer and Distribution Managers, Claims and other lines of businesses, you will drive production with your market presence and represent the General Property team at regional insurance industry and broker events.
- Compliance and Controlling: Ensuring compliance with all of Swiss Re business guidelines, you will demonstrate the Swiss Re values and Corporate Solutions Key Behaviors whilst ensuring that relevant deadlines are met.

We will assess your achievements via profitability measures achieved, delivery of top and bottom-line targets, new client acquisition and penetration, as well, cross sell delivery.

**About the Team**

You will be managing a team of experienced underwriters supporting the General Property business in Canada, specifically focusing on Central and Eastern Canada. Reporting into the Head Property & Specialty Canada, your peers will include a Western Leader, Energy Property Leader, and Engineering and Construction Leader. We are a diverse and inclusive team that works well in a collaborative environment while fostering and developing independent thought.

**About You**

Educational background:

- University degree or equivalent with a strong business component preferred

Technical skills:

- 10 years Property underwriting experience, including International business
- Solid understanding of Canadian insurance market

Professional Experience:

- Sound expertise in Property Underwriting and knowledge of the market including, International Business capability
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including facilitation skills
- Business sense, service-oriented and entrepreneurial mindset, with a focus on execution
- Positive, solution-focused, and pragmatic approach to problem solving
- Willingness to cope with workload peaks

Leadership skills:

- Client-centric, forward, proactive style anticipating customer future needs
- A strong teammate, including ability to work well with teams and groups in multiple offices across organizational boundaries
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and credibility

Language skills:

- Bilingual in English and French would be an asset.
