**I. JOB STATEMENT**:
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Facilities supervisor is responsible for supervising the maintenance, repair, minor renovation, custodial services and asset management of all interior and exterior physical building spaces, in both Student Centres on behalf of the York University Student Centre during the evening hours.

The Facilities Supervisor assists the Facilities Manager in the implementation and maintenance of the preventative maintenance program. This is accomplished through providing day-to-day direction to multiple maintenance trades, staff and contractors. The Facilities Supervisor works with all relevant York University departments and community members to ensure the Student Centre buildings are maintained in good repair with a high standard of service excellence.

The Facilities Supervisor directly supervises unionized Student Centre custodial staff in the performance of their day-to-day responsibilities in accordance with the relevant collective agreement. This position is responsible for ensuring the satisfactory operation of all building systems, completion of minor renovations/repairs, maintenance of appropriate cleaning standards and adherence to building codes. The Facilities Supervisor also provides a building closing function by inspecting the facilities after closing hours and ensuring security and proper usage is maintained.

**2. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:
**A. Operations**
- Acts as a resource to the organization and Facilities Manager with respect to maintenance and minor renovations, custodial services, providing advice and guidance on the types of repairs required, associated costs and preventative maintenance priorities.
- Acts as YUSC management representative during the Evening shift.
- Ensures all work has minimum disruption to building occupants and the general community.
- Oversees Custodial Staff in all aspects of cleaning and building maintenance.
- Sets priorities and facilitates work according to the priorities. Co-ordinates any shutdowns to building systems as required.
- Conducts quality assurance checks of maintenance repairs and renovations to ensure all work has been completed and in compliance with building codes, health and safety and organizational standards; prepares and submits reports to the Facilities Manager.
- Responsible for being available to communicate with University emergency staff or custodial staff.
- Ensures adherence to the organization’s key control policy.
- Executes daily building inspections in both the First and Second Student Centres after closing to ensure successful vacation of the premises by ineligible individuals and provide support for staff leaving or entering the premises during closed hours.
- Acts as security liaison for the YUSC and Security Services and keeps regular communications as necessary with emergency services.

**B. Planning**
- Assists in updating, implementation and maintenance of Preventative Maintenance Programs. Assists in identifying and maintaining deferred maintenance lists.
- Facilitates required audits of YUSC facilities and assets with Facilities Manager for reporting of costing and prioritizing of asset renewal, preventative and deferred maintenance projects.
- Sits on YUSC management team and attends management meetings as needed and advises the organization on behalf of Facilities related issues.

**C. Financial**
- Cost Estimates: Facilitates, prepares and provides specifications and cost estimates for the organization regarding Maintenance & Repair work.

**D. Human Resource Management**
- The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of unionized custodial staff in compliance with collective agreements, Ministry of Labour and employment standards legislation.
- Monitors and records attendance; Tracks and identifies absenteeism concerns through reports and administers controls through established organizational procedures.
- Works with staff returning to work after work-related or non work-related injury in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
- Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, prepares and implements Standard Operating Procedures for all maintenance related tasks and ensures training and compliance (e.g. health and safety, equipment operations, etc.). Conducts regular reviews and schedules retraining as required. Ensures staff training & equipment files are complete and kept current.
- Attends and participates on committees and projects as needed (e.g. Facilities projects, Health & Safety, etc).

**E. Health & Safety**
- Responsible for the provision and maintenance of a safe and secure work environment. Accountable and personally liable for providing a safe work environment for all staff working under their direction as per Section 27 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
