Summary

The Striker and Hatchery Worker is responsible for general hatchery work, including removing chicks from hatcher, cleaning and disinfecting hatchers, trays, & parts, transfer of eggs from setter to hatcher trays and general cleaning of Hatchery. Also assisting our drivers. Helping guide drivers on and off job sites and helping with loading and unloading. The Striker may also deliver smaller loads of chicks to customers using the hatchery van. This position involves heavy lifting.

The position does have the possibility of training to become a chick truck driver in future.

Schedule

The work schedule for this position is typically Monday to Friday working on average 40 hours a week. Varying hours and weekend work may be required depending on operational requirements.

Position Accountabilities- Deliver healthy strong chicks to API customers and provide good communication with customers.-
- Box eggs and egg transfers-
- Handle chicks and eggs-
- Possess good interpersonal skills to communicate directly with customers-
- Clean and disinfect equipment using appropriate methods (high pressure, mop, washer, etc.)-
- General cleaning and set up of equipment and rooms-
- Follow safety rules and guidelines-
- Follow animal welfare policies-
- Follow safety procedures-
- Load and unload chicks-
- Support and direct driver in backing up trucks onto job sites and difficult areas-
- Assist with truck and equipment maintenance as necessary-
- Deliver smaller orders of chicks in hatchery van (Class 5 license)-
- Protect the organization’s value by keeping all protected and proprietary information confidential-
- Practice bio security protocol-
- Follow all safety processes and procedures-
- All other duties as assignedPosition RequirementsAbility to build strong internal and external relationships

-Ability to lift 50lbs for an extended period

-Must be on time, reliable and have a good positive attitude
-Post-Secondary is an asset
-Class 5 license with clean abstract

Working Conditions

The position operates indoors in a production environment. The work environment is warm and humid and dusty at times with strong odours. Standing for long periods of time, repetitive tasks, and heavy lifting are common. It also operates outdoors, will need to work in different weather conditions.

Weekend and holiday work may be required based on operational requirements.
