**PURPOSE**:
This position is responsible for day-to-day management of worksite trainers and for directing the successful delivery and continued improvement of BCMEA’s waterfront training programs. In addition, the **Operations Supervisor** will provide regular coaching, guidance, and evaluation for trainers to ensure trainees receive fair, consistent, and effective training within specified timelines and budgets.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES**:

- Responsible for the on-site delivery of the Quarterly Training Plan targets to ensure that the right people, with the right skills are in the right place, at the right time.
- Project management support for Terminal expansions and installation of new equipment that requires training to workers in advance of going live.
- Responsible for the quality of training programs to ensure that rated workers will be able to productively and safely perform work for our members.
- Manages the work of unionized trainers and coordinators
- Fosters collaborative working relationships with member company representatives, union trainers and coordinators
- Supports trainers and coordinators by ensuring they have appropriate materials, facilities and equipment
- Analyzes existing training programs to analyze and assess quality and efficacy
- Solicits training program improvement recommendations from trainers and industry representatives
- Validates course content ensuring that it is current, relevant and meets regulatory compliance
- Screens training applicants to assess for suitability based on established criteria
- Monitors and approves exceptional training circumstances. Ensures justification for training outside of budgets
- Arranges and supervises retraining, evaluation and documentation as required
- Ensures BCMEA management rights are represented
- Investigates circumstances of accidents and incidents

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**:

- University degree in business, engineering, logistics and/or professional development in Health and Safety and 5+ years supervisory experience preferred
- Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse and heavily unionized workforce
- Strong analytical aptitude, proven research skills and the ability to assess and interpret data
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage others professionally on sensitive issues
- Understanding of best practices in adult education, combined with an understanding of instructional methods, assessment, program development and training procedures.
- Previous experience delivering on-the-job training, particularly in a unionized environment, is an asset
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Aptitude for critical thinking, problem solving and the ability to resolve issues in a timely manner
- Ability to successfully manage personnel and multiple projects on time and on budget
- Self-motivated and the ability to work effectively with mínimal supervision
- Advanced user of Microsoft 365
- Driver’s License and access to own vehicle required
- Transport Security Clearance Eligible
