You will participate in the development of materials used in 3D printing. The projects will include activities on the development of materials (photoresin) and processes used to make objects using volumetric 3D printing. You will optimize photoresin formulations, develop printing protocols, characterize materials and you will operate and maintain equipment for the synthesis and characterization of materials.
- Under the supervision of other technical officers or researchers, undertake technical work on photoresin development and material characterization for volumetric 3D printing;
- Operate and maintain material characterization instrumentation and equipment;
- Perform data analysis, manage large datasets and report on results;
- Preparing digital designs for 3D printing;
- Contribute, in collaboration with the project leaders, to project planning, develop work plans, write experimental procedures and laboratory test protocols, recognize and solve issues related to equipment, experimental/analytical techniques and approaches used, capture, analyze and report experimental data;
- Contribute to providing a work environment that complies with occupational health and safety policies and regulations.

**Education**:
Collegial diploma or Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or materials science, chemical and materials engineering, or equivalent.

An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

**Experience**:

- Experience in a laboratory research environment and working with standard chemical laboratory procedures.
- Experience in developing, formulating, testing and characterizing photoresins, polymers and electrically conductive materials made by 3D printing.
- Experience in material characterization including rheology, dynamic mechanical analysis, optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), FTIR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, optical profilometry, tensile and compression testing, X-ray microcomputed tomography (micro-CT).
- Experience in programming in MATLAB, LabVIEW, C/C++ or Python and/or computer-aided design software such as Solidworks, Autodesk, AutoCAD.
- Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, data processing and reporting.
- Experience with safe handling and processing of chemicals and nanomaterials.

**Technical Competencies**:

- Knowledge of standard materials characterization and testing techniques, such as rheometry, electron microscopy (e.g., SEM), thermal analyses (e.g., TGA, DSC, DMA), spectroscopy (UV-visible, FTIR, Raman) and mechanical testing (tensile, compression, flexural, etc.).
- Knowledge of specialized software and/or knowledge of high-level programming languages for data analysis, such as MATLAB, Python or similar.
- Ability to operate, modify and develop specialized 3D printing, characterization and testing equipment and techniques, including the installation, calibration, maintenance and repair of equipment or experimental set-ups.
- Ability to establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment according to workplace health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Ability to contribute to reports, draft protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to analyze, discuss, solve problems and present on complex technical issues.

**Compensation**:
From $49,298 to $69,364 per annum.
