**The Role**
- The Compensation Specialist provides expertise in the development, implementation and administration of the College’s compensation programs.**Responsibilities**

**RESPONSIBILITIES***:
Under the general direction of the HR Manager, Advisory Services, the Compensation Specialist is accountable for the following:

- Manages and administers gender neutral job classification systems and processes, including resolving classification problems and challenges; ensures job descriptions and titles are consistent and support internal organizational structures;
- Co-Chairs the support staff Joint Job Evaluation Committee, representing the interests of the College in relation to job development and classification issues;
- Develops, maintains and manages compensation plans for applicable employee groups, making appropriate adjustments to ensure such plans reflect College needs;
- Conducts job analysis for unionized support staff positions including interviewing employees and supervisors and analyzing job class specifications;
- Supports the excluded job evaluation process by liaising with managers regarding outcomes;
- Maintains up-to-date records of job descriptions, job classifications and job evaluation results for support staff and excluded positions;
- Actively provides advice and support to help ensure the consistency and quality of College job descriptions;
- Identifies process improvements related to job evaluation process and recommends solutions and participates in the development of related tools;
- Works closely with the HR Advisors, acting as a resource on compensation issues and providing recommendations;
- Provides advice to senior management on initiatives that affect compensation and job re-design;
- Conducts and participates in compensation surveys as required;
- Develops and updates compensation policies and procedures as required;
- Develops communication initiatives to ensure employees understand the value of the College’s total compensation package;
- Compiles compensation data for PSEA, PSEC and other legislative bodies on compensation-related matters and prepares a variety of reports including in preparation for bargaining;
- Gathers and analyzes a variety of market and job data, presenting the information to senior decision makers;
- Assists in the development and delivery of compensation education for HR teams, managers and employees;
- Ensures compliance with legislative requirements and sector best practices ensuring the College’s competitiveness in the labour market;
- Performs other related duties as required.

- A Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (i.e. Commerce, Business, Human Resource Management) and 3-5 years of experience in compensation or classifications in a unionized setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation or equivalent (or in progress);
- An equivalent combination of the above; plus

Demonstrated experience in:

- Compensation processes and relevant workplace regulations and legislation;
- Administering classification language in collective agreements;
- Providing advice and support to client groups;
- Using spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software to create reports;
- Working independently and tactfully, persuading and influencing others, exercising considerable judgment and maintaining confidentiality;
- Dealing effectively with conflicting expectations and resistance;
- Modeling professional, ethical and collaborative behaviour consistent with the position.
