Full time, contract: June to August 2024
- Interval House of Ottawa is a 38-bed emergency home for those fleeing VAW/GBV and their dependents, and is the only shelter in Ottawa that provides on-site housing for their pets._

Under the supervision of the Program Manager and guidance of the Child & Family Program Coordinator, the Child & Youth Worker will provide direct support to the children and youth residing at Interval House of Ottawa-Maison Interval d’Ottawa (IHO). Work will include organizing and implementing recreational activities in accordance with the IHO mission, values, and basic beliefs to meet the needs of diverse communities.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**
- Plan and implement age-appropriate recreational and leisure activities for children and youth
- Set up calendar and schedule of events
- Provide a safe, stimulating, enjoyable and creative environment for children and youth
- Create an atmosphere of safety and trust by interacting with children in a patient, positive and non-judgmental manner
- Promote an atmosphere that is inclusive of all residents considering gender identity and/or expression, sexual orientation, age, race, place of origin, ethnicity, religion and economic situation
- Encourage positive self-image in children
- Show children and youth non-violent ways to resolve conflict
- Intervene in crisis and refer to other staff when needed
- Plan and implement outings within the community for children and families, including arranging for transportation
- Provide childcare for shelter residents
- Encourage parents to participate in activities
- Support volunteers in child and youth recreation
- Keep records of daily activities
- Maintain an inventory of supplies for the playroom and children’s activities, replenishing/requesting supplies as needed

**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
- Experience working with children and youth, including those from diverse communities and of diverse abilities
- Child and youth intervention skills such as behaviour management, crisis intervention, etc.
- Knowledge of issues related to Violence Against Women (VAW)/Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and children who witness abuse
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Training in the field of Child and Youth work is considered an asset
- Ability to communicate fluently in spoken and written English. Ability to communicate in other languages is an asset

**OTHER REQUIREMENTS**
- Staff may be required to interact with animals that are housed on-site
- As a condition of employment, all employees must have and provide proof of full COVID-19 immunization. Where a person is unable to vaccinate for human rights protected reasons, an accommodation may be provided

**COMPENSATION & HOURS**
- $18.00 per hour, plus 4% paid in lieu of vacation
- 35 hours per week
- Must be available to work days, evenings and weekends
