**About Our Opportunity**:
As the Survey Technician 2(A)-(B) you will be responsible for supporting the administration of land surveying activities on Crown lands for the Survey Division of the Land Services Branch of the Department.

In this role you will report to the Manager of Crown Survey Administration.

**Primary Accountabilities**:
Some of the primary accountabilities in the role include:

- Providing operational support for land transactions by researching, preparing, and reviewing plans for the disposal and/or acquisition of Crown lands.
- Compiling and drafting various types of plans in support of land transactions such as: leases, Crown grants, owner unknown acquisitions, certificates of release, and or special leases, for review by the Manager.
- Performing detailed survey examinations by reviewing the submissions and ensuring the guidelines for surveying on Crown lands, the Nova Scotia Lands Surveyors Act, and the Nova Scotia Land Surveyors Standards of Practice have been followed properly.
- Utilizing computer aided drafting software such as AutoCAD to delineate survey lines, compute area calculations, perform plan analysis, and filters and converts digital data into various formats to be implemented in a GIS environment.
- Reviewing and using supporting information for the order of survey package from various sources such as: Crown Land Online (CLO), Property Online (POL), DocuShare, Surveys Division survey plans, field notes, historical records, field plot envelopes and survey annex files.
- Reviewing legal descriptions for private sector and provincial and federal government agencies to ensure accuracy and completeness.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a Diploma in Surveying Technology.

You are able to use your knowledge of survey law, land transaction requirements, and survey requirements, to continuously look to identify process roadblocks and help streamline product delivery by improving efficiencies, building transparency and communicating effectively with all stakeholders.

You have knowledge of the principles, concepts and practices of cadastral and geodetic surveying, modern survey methods and survey devices such as total stations, Global Positioning System (GPS), and Data Collectors and the capabilities and limitations of the various methods and instruments used for land survey work.

You have demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of software used to digitally transform and shape spatial data such as AutoCAD, ArcMap, GPS processing programs, C&G Survey and transformation/conversion software. You have an understanding and training in map projections, error analysis, geodetic computations, reference data, geoids, ellipsoids, coordinating transformations and other geospatial factors.

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong attention to detail and excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills as well as tact and diplomacy in order to advise and consult a range of audiences, to interview and extract information from landowners, to resolve issues cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders and to testify as an expert witness on matters related to legal surveys. You are a self-starter, detail-oriented and able to work independently and in a team environment.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

**Working Conditions**:
Office environment.

Irregular travel by care for site visits is required, which might require the use of protective gear such as a hard hat, safety boots, eyewear and gloves.
