The Village of Port Clements is seeking a motivated individual to become a Public Works
Assistant who is willing to grow amongst the team, strengthen the values of the community, increase staff capacity, and assume position of Su perintendent of Public Works when needed.

The community of Port Clements is centrally lo cated on Graham Island on Haida Gwaii. Port

Reporting to the Public Works Superintendent, the Public Works Assistant will assist with ensuring the Village of Port Clements services, infrastructure and properties are maintained and operational.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Possess a willingness to participate in training sessions to develop or enhance required skills.
- Be willing to shadow the more experienced staff.
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
- Possess at least a valid Class 5 Drivers License
- The following Environmental Operators Certification Programme (EOCP) certifications or the willingness to obtain certification within a specific time of employment and willingness and ability to upgrade if necessary:
Small Water Systems
Small Wastewater Systems
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.
- Ability to work closely with Public Works Superintendent and other staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills to deal with staff and public.
- Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised.
- Experience in related work would be an asset, but not a requirement
- An aptitude for Mechanical/Carpentry/Plumbing would an asset

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE** **BUT NOT LIMITED TO**:
Based on the direction provided by the Public Works Superintendent, the assistant will ultimately be responsible for the following:

- Water Treatment & Distribution Maintenance
- Sewer/Wastewater Treatment & Collection Maintenance
- Road Maintenance
- Municipal building maintenance
- Biomass Heating Plant monitoring and maintenance.
- Groundskeeping - ie. Landscaping, mowing, weeding, brushing, etc.
- Tool & Equipment Maintenance.
- Implementing best operational practices in working procedures

**Salary**: $25.00-$26.80 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
