The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Alberta is a globally recognized leader in pharmacy education and research. **Position**

Working in Dr. Khaled Barakat’s laboratory, and under the guidance of the Principal Investigator or senior academic staff, the Technician will be responsible for conducting experiments for drug identification and development. The technician's role involves routine screening experiments, reagent preparation, instrument operation, and data documentation

**Dr. Barakat’s Laboratory**

In addition to computational work, the laboratory conducts wet-lab experiments to validate modeling hypotheses and enhance calculations, mainly focusing on characterizing interactions between proteins and small molecules and protein-protein interactions.

**Duties**
- Collect and report data, improve techniques, communicate suggested technique changes, and plan additional experiments in collaboration with the supervisor.
- Provide technical support in the laboratory and serve as a resource for students and fellow researchers.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) guidelines.
- Conduct general bench and biosafety cabinet analyses, including aseptic techniques.
- Deliver reliable, precise, and timely results in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. Properly store and dispose of reagents while strictly adhering to safety protocols.
- Manage and order specialized laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Ensure that laboratory equipment, instruments, supplies, and work areas are clean and well-maintained.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- At least 1 year of previous laboratory experience will be required.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills; verbal, written, and interpersonal.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines: effective time-management and multi-tasking skills are essential.
- Proficient in Mac and PC use; Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism preferred
