**Job Summary**:
Child and Youth Crisis Response Workers provide children and youth (and their parents/caregivers) under the age of 18 years experiencing a mental health crisis with quick support by telephone initially with the possibility of follow up in person / virtually to provide an assessment of risk and to develop risk safety plans and brief treatment interventions. Crisis workers provide immediate consultation, assessment of risk and short-term treatment interventions to youth and families. Crisis workers liaise with Emergency Departments in 5 County of Simcoe hospitals, provide case management support to youth admitted to facilities outside of Simcoe County (i.e., attend Youthdale case conferences by phone) and support with Child and youth Assessments for youth who have been put on a Form 1 at Georgian Bay General Hospital. Collaboration with community partners, school boards, and hospitals is essential to the work in Crisis Response. Other responsibilities include working in an inter-disciplinary and inter/intra agency work environment. Effective teamwork skills are essential along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- On a rotational schedule, be responsive to a rotational on-call model of crisis service with availability from 9am-9pm weekdays and 9am-5pm weekends; and be responsive to calls within one hour of receiving the call.
- Provide on-site assessment of presenting concerns, stabilization, management of crisis situations and linkage with other resources as required.
- Provide risk assessment with referred youth in crisis and provide brief treatment interventions to youth and families.
- Provide consultation to community partners and inform them regarding service navigation for children’s mental health and other social service systems in Simcoe County; including supporting 2 situation tables / Community hub meetings on a monthly basis in the community.
- Provide onsite assessment support in the Emergency Department at GBGH as required to conduct Child and Youth assessments on youth who have been placed on a Form 1 for admission to a schedule 1 hospital.
- Support 5 County hospitals with discharge planning, community transition following admission or emergency room visits.
- Complete necessary paperwork in a timely manner as per Kinark policies and procedures.

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum Child and Youth Worker diploma
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in children’s mental health and experience providing crisis intervention with children, youth and families.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently is required.
- Effective communication and willingness to work on a team are essential.
- Training in Triple P Primary Care and training with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy are considered assets.
- Training in Suicide Risk Assessment/support (ASIST by Living Works) considered an asset and/or other youth suicide intervention training.
- Travel is required for this position, the successful incumbent must have a valid Ontario driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to obtain automobile insurance which includes driving for business purposes with a minimum liability of one million dollars.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening) and Pre-Employment Medical.
