**Community Bylaw Officers - 4 Positions**
**Summer Seasonal - May to September**
**Starting Wage - $25.53 (40 hrs per week)**
Community Bylaw Officers preserve and maintain public peace by enforcing specific Municipal Bylaws utilizing a public education perspective of enforcement. This position supplements the work of Community Peace Officers and requires flexibility, discipline, professionalism, and good character. A Bylaw Officer must perform rationally and consistently within the law, given their limited powers and authorities.
Ø Preserving and maintaining the public peace, by enforcing Municipal Bylaws (primarily focused on the downtown area and parking related enforcement.
Ø Investigating Municipal Bylaw complaints, and submitting reports, files, letters, and legal documents
Ø Performing lower risk enforcement and making frequent contact with the public including municipal violation tickets and public awareness
Ø Operating non-emergency equipment, including town vehicles, electronics, computers and radios
Ø Liaising and working effectively with law enforcement agencies, including the RCMP and working effectively with other departments of the Town of Sylvan Lake
Ø Attending meetings, if or when required
Ø Performing other assigned duties, functions, and responsibilities as directed by the Manager of Municipal Enforcement
Ø A minimum age of 18 years
Ø Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
Ø Recommended One Year Post Secondary in Criminal Justice or related Law Enforcement studies and previous related experience in enforcement
Ø Successful completion of an RCMP based Vulnerable Sector Check to qualify and a more comprehensive RCMP Security Clearance to be accepted
Ø Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with proof of acceptable Driving Record
Ø Must be resourceful and show initiative
Ø Demonstrated proficiency in writing, verbal and communication skills
Ø Proven knowledge of Canadian law, municipal bylaws and enforcement practices
Ø Ability to effectively manage difficult persons and high stress situations with ease
Ø Able to work both independently and cooperatively
Ø Must be able to work in a variety of conditions including flexible hours during evenings and weekends and extended periods outdoors
Ø Related enforcement or municipal experience would be an asset
