**ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES**

This **Marketing Legal Counsel **role will be responsible to provide on on-going legal support to the Marketing function, on the development and execution of business initiatives to ensure continued compliance with legal requirements, established guidelines and corporate positions. The job incumbent requires a high level of interaction with all other business functions in the assessment and/or execution of a wide range of business objectives and strategies. The role requires daily interaction with the Marketing function which calls for expedient, sound and business focused legal advice.

**Reports to**:Head of Legal

**WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR**
- Provide day to day general legal advice to all functions in the Company, with respect to general commercial matters, advertising and marketing law and compliance with regulatory regimes. Provide timely and business relevant legal advice to be relied upon by the Marketing function in building and completing strategies.
- Review various Marketing initiatives and materials, such as, packaging material, branded communication for trade customers, consumers, and internal employees.
- Support other business functions on an ad hoc basis towards the development of legally sound internal procedures, corporate positions or other.
- Drafting legal documents in support of the Company’s commercial activities, such as contracts, contest rules, terms and conditions, etc. Maintain a thorough understanding of laws applicable to the business.
- Coordinate workload and priorities professionally and efficiently to ensure that business needs are met in a timely manner. Responsible management of external counsel mandates in accordance with the Company’s External Counsel Guidelines.
- Establish a strong and constructive working relationship with support personnel.
- Proactively create useful tools for the business functions, such as guidelines, checklists and presentations, to educate others on legal restrictions and requirements.
- Lead the development of educational workshops and training sessions for employees and third-party service suppliers on the particularities of the tobacco industry and its regulatory environment. Build strong professional relationships with internal clients and with work colleagues to facilitate effective communication.
- Foster a work environment which encourages the involvement of the legal function in the development of business initiatives. Develop and maintain healthy business relationships with legal counterparts in other end markets and regional/central offices.
- Explore opportunities to improve/leverage competitive advantages, where possible, while limiting legal risk/exposure for the Company. Strive to identify creative business relevant and legally sound solutions when reviewing business proposals.

**ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE**
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience as Lawyer. Work experience in-house in a highly regulated environment/industry or for another “FMCG” Company would be an asset.
- Possess high discernment, good judgment, and a strong ability to quickly understand complex business situations and to analyse their implications. Strong knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with key collaborators.
- Strong ability to work in a team as well as independently and take initiatives to get the work done. Strong ability to work under pressure, to handle multiple conflicting priorities and render decisions quickly and efficiently.
- Good time management skills and strong ability to deliver work as per agreed deadlines. Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills. Autonomy in driving project to completion.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
- Possess the current legal right to work in Canada. The job incumbent is required to work at our Head Office based in Montréal.
- Bachelors’ Degree in Law from a recognized institution.
- Member of the Bar Association.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English & French. Knowledge of English is required because the role deals with customers and suppliers elsewhere in Canada and around the world.
