**Family Support Worker - Thresholds Program - Aunt Leah's Place**

**Who we are**:
For over 30 years, Aunt Leah’s Place has supported youth in foster care and young mothers to achieve a brighter future.

We provide a variety of supports and resources, including housing, job training, and coaching on essential life skills that set youth on a successful path of self-sufficiency. Our programs target the entry and exit points of the foster care system to provide support, resources, and opportunities similar to those provided by average Canadian families.

**About the Thresholds Program**:
The Thresholds Program is for women who are about to give birth or who have just given birth and are at risk of becoming homeless and /or are at risk of losing custody of their children. Aunt Leah’s uses a variety of strategies to help keep participants housed. Aunt Leah’s Place provides housing and homelessness prevention for youth from foster care and families at risk of losing child custody.

Program participants are connected with community programs and resources as well as Aunt Leah’s workshops. These include:

- Post-natal support
- Life skills assessment - helping Moms with their preparedness to successfully parent and live independently with their babies
- Aboriginal Infant Development Program (AIDP)
- Cultural teachings
- Scheduled weekly programming that encourages mom and baby bonding and develops parenting skills

**Job Summary**: Reporting to the Team Lead, the Thresholds Family Support Worker is part of the Thresholds team, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and babies through a holistic and trauma-informed lens.

The Family Support Worker provides a range of support services for women at risk of losing custody of their child(ren) due to socio-economic factors, many of whom have concurrent mental illnesses, substance use, and /or physical health issues as well as experience with homelessness.

This position assists with pre-and post-natal care and supporting the mothers in increasing their life skills with the goal of preventing children in foster care from becoming homeless, and mothers in need from losing custody of their children.

**Salary**: Starting at $23.00 an hour

**Qualifications**:

- A Diploma in Community Social Services
- One to two years of recent, related work experience, including working with women with an emphasis on mental health, addictions, homelessness, and/or social services; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Current First Aid and CPR certification w/ baby safe
- Criminal Records Search for working with vulnerable adults and children

**Requirements**:

- Undergo and maintain satisfactory Criminal Record Check & Local Police Information Check
- MCFD Clearance
- A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle are required to provide accompaniments
- Produce and maintain clear Driver’s Abstract
- Ability to acquire and provide proof of vehicle business insurance and $5 million liability
- Rapid Response Overdose Training
- First Aid - Level C w/ CPR baby safe
- Mental Health First Aid
- Suicide Prevention Training
- Cultural Competency Training
- Addictions & Substance use Training
- Food Safe
- CPI - Intervention Crisis Training
- Agrees and adheres to the Society’s Code of Ethics

**Physical Demands/Working Conditions**:This position requires some lifting of heavier objects

**Work Environment**:

- Thresholds is a supportive housing program for mothers in need; staff works alone
- Annual overnight camping trip and or other outings, celebrations or activities
- An average shift is 7.5 hours/day; **Full-time Regular; Tuesday to Saturday shift schedule, **scheduled monthly by the Thresholds Coordinator. Some flexibility is required
- On-call rotation as required per schedule

- Ability to create, facilitate and assist with peer-based in-house and external programming such as the Mom and Baby Fresh Food Program and annual family overnight camping trips
- Ability to analyze problems and develop effective solutions
- Ability to effectively and safely resolve crisis situations
- Ability to work independently and with mínimal supervision
- Ability to collaborate with staff team and external services
- Ability to constructively resolve conflict with co-workers, management and external services
- Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally
- Ability to organize and prioritize duties
