**Position: Youth** **Outreach Worker**

**21 hours per week - $25 per hour**

The Lower Mainland Purpose Society, in collaboration with the City of New Westminster and Public Safety Canada, is currently seeking a **Part-Time Youth Outreach Worker** to join the team at the newly established New Westminster Youth Hub, made possible through the Building Safer Communities Fund.

This role is centered around providing support to youth who may be engaged in or susceptible to gang or gun-related activities, both within the community and at the youth hub. The program aims to address these issues through a combination of prevention and intervention strategies. By addressing the underlying factors contributing to youth violence, establishing secure surroundings, and empowering both young individuals and the community, the program strives to create and implement effective solutions while maintaining public safety standards.

:

- Utilize a person-centered, strengths-based approach to evaluate the strengths and requirements of youth and families.
- Deliver one-on-one assistance and outreach to youth facing multiple risk factors, which may include mental health challenges, substance misuse, and complex behaviors such as FASD, as well as involvement in high-risk behaviors such as sexual exploitation, gun and gang activities, or street engagement.
- Implement goal-oriented preventive and intervention strategies by assessing client needs and creating service plans to aid youth and families in achieving their objectives.
- Help organize/host community events.
- Provide life skills training through both individual and group sessions.
- Work in a collaboration with community agencies, ministry offices, school districts, police departments, etc.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- A Bachelor of Arts in the social sciences or human services or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of youth and family services.
- Experience working in a non-profit or government agency.
- Knowledge of working with mental health and complex developmental behavioral conditions.
- Well-developed interpersonal, counselling, oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of gang and gun violence and experience working with youth involved in such activities.
- Demonstrate an understanding of collaborative practices and successful collaboration with diverse community partners.
- Display exceptional communication skills.
- Class 5 license and vehicle required; Class 4 or willingness to get an asset.
- Must be willing to work flexible schedule; anticipated schedule: Tues-Thurs from 12:30-8pm.
- First Aid certification required.
