Employment Counsellor

**Position Summary**:
As an Employment Counsellor, the incumbent assists clients in achieving long-term sustainable employment. This includes assisting with job search, career decision making, skill enhancement, and employment maintenance strategies to identify and overcome potential barriers to employment. This position will screen clients for job readiness, assess client skills, develop action plans, referral to AHC job readiness workshops/training/WPP/networking, and prepare clients for job search and employment transition in Canada.
Additionally, this position supports the overall Employment Team with analyzing clients' data and plans appropriate services while advocating for systematic barrier removal.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Perform “pre-intake” information collection, and ID verification of clients. Enter those intake data into Apricot.
- Provide one-on-one counselling to assist and support clients in achieving their employment goals by administering assessments to determine client interests, aptitudes, abilities.
- Develop an Employment Action Plan (“EAP)” with the clients and assist them during the implementation with clear timeline and milestones for follow-ups leading to employment.
- Provide ongoing follow-up support to clients.
- Actively work on job placement and secure jobs for the number of clients targeted per month.
- Perform regular check-in with clients to ensure they are actively job searching and/or have secured work.
- Follow up with the assigned clients before first 90 days and update information in Apricot.
- Work closely with the Employment Training Facilitator and Employer Engagement Liaison/Job Developer to communicate the clients’ needs and challenges.
- Facilitate internal and external referrals and work collaboratively with partner delivery agencies and community support systems to address clients’ needs.
- Empower job seekers to become active participants in building connections and securing sustainable employment and continuous skills development.
- Identify and refer ready-willing and able clients to the entrepreneurship program.
- Answer enquiries related to the programs/services.
- Work collaboratively with the job developer and appropriately monitor the employment relationship from both the employer and client side to ensure the ongoing satisfaction of both parties; determine if and when intervention within the workplace is required and inform the Employer Engagement Liaison & Job Developer.
- Work closely with the youth program to take over “Employment Ready-Willing and Able” clients and enroll them in the program.
- Maintain programs and participants’ records and information.
- Update/maintain all program databases regularly.
- Provide reports documenting program outcomes/results, statistics and other information required by funders and AHC publications (monthly/quarterly/annual reports, newsletters, website etc.) as needed.
- Proactively evaluate the effectiveness of services delivered.
- Attend team meetings and events.
- Maintain client confidentiality and privacy, and
- Perform other related duties as required.
**Qualifications required**:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in career or employment development, vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, sociology, human services, counselling, education or human resources management
- 2+ years of related experience in the employment services, counselling, or other support services industry. Experience working with newcomers is a must, including the ability to develop creative, productive, and collaborative working relationships with diverse and/or multi-barriered clients in both one-to-one and group settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong ability to identify potential partners and develop/strengthen existing relationships.
- Must have an inclusive and anti-oppressive approach to engaging with diverse communities.
- Multilingual ability to communicate effectively with clients, both verbally and in writing is preferred.
- Self-directed with ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work. Adaptable and flexible approach to work.
- Demonstrated ability to act with professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy, and ability to collaborate in a team environment.
**Working Conditions**:
- 37.5 hours per week (Fulltime)
- Office Environment - In-person (occasional remote/virtual work).
- Police Information Check, including vulnerable sector search within six (6) months.
- Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract and a reliable vehicle required, as occasional travel is required to various locations in the greater Edmonton region.
