**Basic Purpose**

This position is responsible for leading and the coordination/administration of the location’s EHS process and assuring comprehensive compliance to policies, corporate initiatives, compliance with local, provincial and federal safety/environmental standards, and the most current safety technologies. Internally, the incumbent interacts with all London Plant employees, corporate associates and plant support groups. Externally the incumbent interacts with safety organizations, government agencies, MOL, MOE, WSIB, City of London, ISO 14000 Auditors, suppliers, consultants and customers.

**Principal Accountabilities**

**_Provide facility leadership for all EHS-related initiatives. _**

Safety:

- Implements and monitors industrial safety elements to ensure personnel and facility safety.
- Ensures compliance with applicable federal, provincial and municipal safety standards.
- Assists in evaluating new equipment and materials brought into the facility.
- Performs surveys and inspections to ensure compliance with the organization’s policies, procedures, regulations and standards related to employee and facility safety.
- Tests and services safety and loss control equipment and systems as required.
- Assists facility personnel with incident review and development of remedial action plans.
- Coordinates and directs the site’s emergency planning and response process.
- Develops and presents employee safety training sessions.
- Facilitates the plant safety committee; assists in the development of Committee activities
- Administers workers’ compensation claims and return to work
- Direct / manage the facility’s ergonomic and disability programs

Environmental:

- Performs routine quantitative and qualitative analyses to determine air, ground or water pollution levels; evaluates all environmental waste streams in the facility.
- Supports technical activities that enable operating units to comply with all environmental regulations.
- Installs and sets-up of monitoring instruments and equipment as appropriate.
- Continually assess environmental risks for the facility. Make recommendations as appropriate to improve exposure levels so that the facility meets and maintains compliance to applicable standards.
- Coordinate disposal of all regulated plant waste.
- Maintain conformance to the ISO 14000 standard; have working knowledge of the standard and be familiar with auditing the system.

Industrial Hygiene:

- Provides industrial hygiene, environmental and hazardous materials support as required.
- Coordinates industrial hygiene monitoring services (insurance company, corporate personnel, etc.) in the facility.
- Participates in compiling, verifying and correlating data relating to occupational and environmental health issues.
- Performs non-routine calculations, preliminary analyses and field monitoring under supervision.
- Maintains and calibrates monitoring instrumentation and equipment as required.
- Loss Control:_
- Assists with external audits (insurance carrier, fire departments, local agencies) as required. Follows through with resultant recommendations.
- Responsible for the facility's fire protection system. Maintains records, ensures inspections as required and adheres to insurance recommendations.

**Required Skills, Education, and Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
- CRSP preferred.
- Three or more years of applied experience in industry and/or associated skills gained through a graduate program; hands-on experience related disciplines (safety, environmental or health).
- Ability to organizes and steers plant committees assigned the task of overseeing loss prevention programs.
- Previous experience maintaining credible open communications between management, union and safety committee
- Aptitude to gather, analyze and report accurate injury and property loss statistics, address trends and formulate corrective actions.
- Maintains plant EMS in conformance to ISO 14000 standard and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
