**About Us**:
The Department of Visual Arts provides the best student experience in the field of art among North America’s leading Universities.
**Responsibilities**:
The Laboratory Technician (Printmaking Technician) will provide technical support for developing and delivering printmaking demonstrations for students in the Department of Visual Arts in collaboration with teaching faculty members. The role will assist with demonstration preparation and organization, ensure the timely availability of materials and equipment related to the demonstrations and order supplies using pre-established guidelines. The Technician will operate and set up sophisticated printmaking equipment for use in the demonstrations, make recommendations for the refinement of demonstration procedures to increase efficiency and productivity, and clean up after the demonstrations are complete. The role will also provide training and oversight to students, maintain and monitor equipment and facilities in the printmaking studios, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards and specific technical processes as they pertain to the printmaking equipment and studio areas.
**Qualifications**:
- Education:
- 4 year University Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in printmaking
**Experience**:
- 2 years of experience in printmaking and providing technical demonstrations in an academic or studio environment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of printmaking techniques, materials and equipment and of chemicals used in printmaking
- Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users in a group setting
- Ability to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation
- Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues, resolving issues, and making decisions
- Ability to follow processes with high attention to detail with an ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to take initiative, work independently and follow through on work assignments
- Excellent troubleshooting ability along with hands-on expertise in technical support
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Ability to prepare, setup and deploy workshops according to schedule and instructions
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with workshop preparation, set-up and clean-up with mínimal supervision
