**Job Description**:
The Asbestos Laboratory Analyst assists the Laboratory Supervisor and Laboratory Manager in preparation and analysis of environmental and industrial hygiene samples using polarized light microscopy (PLM) and phase contrast microscopy (PCM).
- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

- Duties may include sample reception, sample identification, sample preparation, setting up analytical batches and analysis, batch Quality Control, approving and releasing results for review and approval.
- Ensure samples are logged into LIMS accurately and in a quick manner.
- Ensure samples are catalogued and stored in an efficient and easily retrievable manner.
- Assists laboratory personnel in locating and retrieving of samples and also responsible for sample disposal or returning samples to clients.
- Calibration and set up of laboratory equipment prior to analysis.
- Maintain and record equipment calibrations.
- Performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting
- Strong focus on production
- Intermediate knowledge of LIMS
- Periodically analyzes proficiency samples.
- Performs other technical duties as required by the laboratory supervisor.
- Participates in professional development activities (e.g., publication of papers, active participation in appropriate organizations, attending classes and seminars, etc.)
- Could be approved to lock data under the direction of their supervisor
- Could be asked to mentor junior technicians under direction of supervisor
- Monitor Equipment maintenance & laboratory supplies.
- Follow all company health, safety and environmental policies.
- Maintains a clean working environment.
- Follow all Quality system protocols, report discrepancies to their Supervisor.
- May be asked to work in other areas of the Environmental Services laboratory sections.
- May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.

**Qualifications**:

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field, preferably Geology or other physical science
- Experience: minimum of two (2) years of experience working in an asbestos analyst role
- Great communication skills - both verbal and written are ideal
- Experience with a microscope required:

- Experience with Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM)
- Experience with Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM)
- Knowledge of EPA, NIOSH and OSHA methodology
- Successfully completes required training courses and in-house competency testing.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
- Ability to work well with others & independently.
- Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Works well under pressure.
- Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
- Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
- Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
