**Peer Mentor (Peer Support Worker)**

PAARC is seeking a Peer Mentor (Peer Support Worker), for a full-time permanent position to join our busy agency and to work as part of a collaborative team to support PAARC clients. An important role of our Peer Mentors is to foster hope and provide person-centred support to those impacted by their or someone else’s substance use, from the perspective of lived experience. Our Peer Mentors offer a lived experience perspective to support the clinical work of our counsellors and case managers.

PAARC is a non-profit, community-based treatment agency, providing a wide variety of services to persons with substance use, gambling concerns, behavioural dependencies and those living with concurrent substance use and mental health concerns. Our main office is located in Mississauga, Ontario. PAARC supports the full philosophical continuum, including harm reduction, with a person-centred approach to a wide range of client populations.

PAARC offers a 35-hour workweek, with a combination of day and afternoon shifts. Day hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with an unpaid hour for meals, and afternoon hours are 12:30 pm to 8:00 pm, with an unpaid half-hour for meals.

All services are provided from a harm reduction perspective, which respects people’s right to choose their own goals. The Peer Mentor will focus on community outreach and will support clients of our Narcotic Strategy and Withdrawal Management programs, on teams with counsellors and case managers and a community nurse counsellor.

**General Responsibilities**:

- Work collaboratively with clinical staff to provide support to clients
- Support clients in achieving their recovery goals, including goals of harm reduction
- Conduct individual support meetings with clients
- Co-facilitate education and support groups
- Accompany clients to relevant appointments, offering support as appropriate
- Distribute relevant and approved information to support program and client goals
- Participate in service development discussions with colleagues
- Attend team meetings, supervision and training sessions as required
- Participate in the promotion of programs and services
- Able to work occasional evenings

**Qualifications**:

- Personal (lived) experience of addiction and recovery is preferred
- Active in your own recovery process, self-aware, ability to draw on personal experiences to engage, validate and role model when appropriate
- Exercise appropriate professional boundaries
- Willingness to work with a diverse group of clients from a harm reduction perspective
- Excellent people skills, must be open, non-judgemental and willing to learn
- Ability to take initiative and work independently, while also working closely with a team of colleagues and professionals
- Ability to work in a professional work environment is essential
