**POSITION PURPOSE**

The Department Production Manager position is vital to the successful delivery of high quality visual effects for our clients. The Department Production Manager will work closely with the Department Supervisor to ensure the effective running of the department.

The Department Production Manager will act as a liaison between the VFX Producers, Production Managers, Coordinators and their department to manage, conform, and drive the schedule to ensure on-time delivery of shots. You will use your organizational and communication skills to keep track of artists and show needs in order to clearly debrief any big picture schedule or production impacts to the Producer.

As a DPM, you will use your calm and positive demeanor, to resolve issues as they arise. You will need to adapt to change and have the ability to modify schedules as client needs shift. You will keep track of workflow progress through personal interactions with Coordinators, Department Supervisors as well as Shotgun; alerting the VFX Production Manager of any issues which may result in workflow delays.

The DPM will manage, coach, and guide direct and indirect reports to ensure smooth interdepartmental communication and workflow. You will utilize your people skills to manage Artists to meet show deadlines. The Department Production Manager will be responsible for employee performance management and supervision within their team.

Equally, the Department Production Manager will motivate the artists and production team during peak periods. You will take initiative to develop employee engagement initiatives with HR to maintain/increase morale.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Crew performance, annual feedback and conflict mediation
- Casting artists from your department on shows according to skill and availability
- Working closely with the Dept Supervisor to provide VFX Producer with first pass, internal bids
- Initially assign and schedule your artists’ tasks in collaboration with the VFX Production Manager
- Daily catch ups with show coordinators to stay informed of artist performance and any relevant show information.
- Coordinating daily meetings schedule with all departments on all shows
- Maintaining and reshuffling assets schedule on a daily basis
- Updating department crew plan to be folded into Facility wide crew plan
- Creating directories and shotgun pages in relation to your department.
- Keeping department shotgun pages up to date - including bid days vs actuals
- Monitoring artist timelogs and adjusting if needed
- Flagging potential OT to show producers/PMs in advance
- Scheduling & participating in rounds/meetings/reviews/catch ups for shows as needed.
- Communicating with other show coordinators of any changes affecting their respective departments
- Keep a running list of Department tool developments for shows and necessary training required for such tools. Task them whenever possible.
- Managing artists' downtime effectively and providing suggestions on potential tasks to keep them occupied.
- Training and supervising any department coordinators or assistants when applicable. I.e. New Hires and/or Department growth.
- Make sure Production documentation for both projects and the facility is kept up to date.
- Other production duties may be required.

**Technical skills**
- Ability to train and coach production staff
- 5 years’ experience in film, television or animation
- 3 years’ experience as Senior Coordinator
- Proven experience with project management
- Proven experience with Shotgun or other production management software
- Thorough understanding of live-action and CG based VFX workflows

**Core skills**
