Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Creative Services, the Multimedia Communications Officer will develop and create video and multimedia content with the goal of strengthening McGill’s relationship with alumni, donors and other constituents. The role will develop and support the McGill brand through storytelling and content creation. Working with the Associate Director and the different units within Communications and University Advancement, the incumbent will be responsible for producing and managing multimedia content that advances engagement and fundraising objectives across a variety of digital platforms.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan and executes multimedia and video projects by meeting with clients to determine the needs.- Generate ideas, develop storyboards and scripts for a range of video genres.- Identify filming locations and manage all necessary equipment.- Produce video content by filming interviews and events, managing audio and lighting, and gathering b-roll and additional footage as necessary.- Manages the post-production of multimedia and video content, including editing, motion graphics, music and sound, and captions and subtitles.- Identifies opportunities for developing and curating multimedia content and operates with agility to create and distribute content to audiences under tight timelines.- Designs and integrates graphics in accordance with McGill’s visual identity guidelines; creates a standard system of motion graphics.-
- Upkeeps video equipment, evaluating ongoing needs and ensuring that equipment meets the needs of video and multimedia projects.- Develop and implement an organization for multimedia files and create relevant metadata records for websites and social media platforms.- Works with Associate Director, Communications and the Communications team to advise on distribution methods and analyze the results of video and multimedia content to maximize the impact of digital communication and marketing strategies.- Serve as staff photographer, on occasion, at signature internal staff events and celebrations.- The list of duties and responsibilities outlined above is representative and not a complete and detailed list of tasks which may be performed by an employee whose position has been matched to this generic job description.

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities:
- Undergraduate degree in Communications, Film studies, Cinema or related field is an asset.- Demonstrated ability to develop high-quality video and multimedia content, created and optimized for websites, broadcasts and social media channels.- Ability to develop original illustrations, motion graphics and designs for videos including simple animations (.gifs)-
- Demonstrated skill in conducting local and remote shoots, including but not limited to properly setting up lighting, backdrops and audio recording needs. This includes filming live interviews, events and b-roll visuals.- Proficiency with Canon DSLR video and photography equipment and other video camera related tech such as Go Pro cameras and electronic gimbals.- Demonstrated skill in video editing.- Knowledge of appropriate video compression methods for different mediums.- Knowledge of storyboard and script writing is an asset. Good editorial acumen.- Experience with producing podcasts is an asset.- Strong organizational, priority-setting, problem-solving, listening, verbal and written communication skills.- Detail oriented.- Proven ability to work under pressure, sometimes on multiple projects, in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, take initiative and work independently as well as in a team.- Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 3-4 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.
