Lecturer in Master of International Forestry

**Position Description**:
The lecturer will be responsible for instructing the courses on Natural Resource Economics and Environmental Finance (FRST 534) and International Forest Governance and Policy (FRST 553). In addition, the lecturer will support the organization of the directed study and placement/internship (FRST 526) with the MIF Director. The Lecturer will also manage the year-long seminar series module (FRST 562), help develop and instruct all other MIF courses as required (FRST 519, 522, 543, 559, 560) and lead the organization of program orientation week and two one-week field trips (one in each term).
The lecturer will work with the Assistant Dean of Professional Education, Program Director and MIF instructor team on the development, marketing and continual improvement of the program. The program’s expected 20-25 student cohort per year comprises a diverse international student group, mainly early and mid-career professionals. The program aims to prepare professionals for work in developing countries and international forestry organizations addressing the needs of international forestry and sustainable development. Teaching will include classroom-based lectures, seminars, projects and fieldwork and there will be a gradual expansion of online offerings for MIF students.
The lecturer will mentor and advise individuals students and encourage teamwork amongst the student cohort. The lecturer will ensure research is at the frontier of sustainability science in order to maintain the MIF as a “state of the art”, learning experience. The lecturer will promote the program amongst potential students, particularly internationally. The lecturer will assist the Program Director in reviewing applicant files, interviewing applicants, guiding admitted students in choosing elective courses, and monitoring student progress. The lecturer will assist the Program Director and student services team in recruitment and promotional activities for the program.
This 3-year appointment will start on February 15, 2023. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
**Qualifications**:
- Must have a Masters’s and PhD in an appropriate field/ discipline and must have experience in multi, inter, and trans-disciplinary sustainability science
- Two or more years of relevant, instructional experience with adult and international learners coming from pedagogically diverse backgrounds is highly desirable
- Experience in curriculum development, teaching and mentoring students internationally, and have demonstrated excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team is necessary as well as the ability to work on tight deadlines
- Professional work experience of at least 4 years outside academia in a relevant professional environmental field is preferred
- Practical professional experience on the ground in developing countries, and in high-level international settings is desirable
- Demonstrated expertise in project management in diverse teams, organizing field trips, grant proposal writing, leadership training is desirable
- Demonstrated ability to establish productive partnerships with conservation and development organizations in the tropics is preferred
- Understanding of the mission and structure of continuing education and professional development is necessary
- Effective oral and written communication, supervisory, conceptual and problem-solving skills are required
- Capacity to understand and interpret University regulations and policies
- In this position, it is essential to be comfortable working with senior leaders, faculty, staff, and students; be able to provide supportive leadership; have advanced organizational and analytical skills; be able to work both independently and within a team environment; be able to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines; and exercise tact, discretion, and judgement in a multi-stakeholder environment
