**Job Summary**

As a Family Engagement Worker, you will play an integral role in supporting ABC Head Start’s mission and vision of raising families out of poverty and helping children harness their superpowers, conquer hardships, and live their best lives while ensuring all children have equal access to a full and successful life. This role works with families of children enrolled in ABC Head Start, to help strengthen parent/child relationships and expand the family’s resources. This role is supported by the Site Supervisor and the Professional Practice Mentor and plays a key role on the inter-disciplinary team.

**Major Functions and Responsibilities**:

- Foster strong relationships with families in their role of primary caregivers for their children
- Foster relationship building and work collaboratively with site team, the agency, partners and community stakeholders to create a family friendly environment

- Supporting self-advocacy practices to assist families to become their own best advocates
- Advocate for families in crisis, assisting with problem solving and goal planning to increase their confidence in meeting the needs of their children and family
- Identifying community resources and contacts to continually enhance programming to meet both the needs of the families and the outcomes of the program
- Act as a liaison with community resources and arranging case conferences where necessary
- Coordinate referrals to other community resources for those children who require further support based on site team and family recommendations
- Seek out and participate in opportunities to develop and enhance connections with stakeholders
- Demonstrate responsive programming
- Practice in accordance with a Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice equivalent to that of a Social Worker, and in accordance with the Health Act
- Spending time with children regularly in the classroom and on home visits
- Record the results of evaluations and/or assessments conducted during home visits following a set schedule to ensure the effectiveness of the program and to assist in planning future home visits
- Maintain complete case files for each child and family
- Maintain strict confidentiality and treating information about the children and families in accordance with privacy requirements
- Engages in a process of continuous learning and professional development
- Contribute to a positive team environment
- Adhere to ABC Head Start policies, procedures and standards of practice

**Required Skills & Experience**:

- Working with families with young children
- Experience working with vulnerable families
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams
- Knowledge of community resources in the Edmonton area
- Basic computer skills for Office 365, MS Office

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Bachelor of Social Work Degree, Social Work Diploma, Human Ecology, or other related/equivalent field of study.
- Valid registration with applicable governing body (eg. ACSW)
- Bias awareness, intercultural competence and/or reconciliation training (asset)
- Suicide Prevention (asset)
- Trauma Informed Care training (asset)
- First Aid Certification
- Valid Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

**Salary**

$25.98 - $34.09/hour

**Work Schedule**

75 hours bi-weekly, Monday - Friday

1/2 hour paid lunch daily

Immediate start date
