**Position**: Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS)

**Assignment**: Full-time Salaried

**The Position**:
Reporting to the Senior Coordinator(s), Therapeutic Recreation, the Therapeutic Recreation Specialist is responsible for planning and implementing a variety of recreational programs for individuals with and without disabilities. The Recreation Therapist educates individuals and facilitates programs/activities that improve and enhance the overall health, wellbeing, and quality of life through meaningful recreation and leisure activities.
**What You’ll Do**:
Support.
- You will assist the TR team with the development, facilitation and evaluation of systems and processes for the Therapeutic Recreation internal and community-based programs.
- You will work with the TR team to monitor and evaluate the progress of clients’ physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being.
- You will work with the Senior Manager to collect and provide feedback on programs, maintain attendance lists, and other program evaluation measures.
- You will collaborate with clients to complete assessments, identify, and develop action plans with attainable and realistic goals that improve and/or restore health and wellness and implement plan with clients.
- You will co-lead site visits with the Senior Coordinators in schools partaking in Therapeutic Recreation programming, and community partners as necessary.
- You will participate in daily de-briefs with staff and students to discuss challenges, concerns, and successes of each program.
- You will manage and maintain program equipment and supplies.
- You will attend staff meetings as required. You will perform other duties as assigned.
Build Relationships.
- You will ensure a safe, healthy, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants, staff, and volunteers while engaged in any Therapeutic Recreation program.
- You will establish rapport and maintain effective relationships with members, support workers, participant parents, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- You will collaborate with teachers, professionals, and other stakeholders to ensure success with program delivery (both internally and externally).
- You will assist with the supervision and evaluation of program volunteers and placement students.
- You will use a variety of therapeutic tools and techniques that focus on and promote inclusion of all activities to meet the changing needs and abilities of individuals.
- You are familiar with and desire/passion to work with youth and adults with disabilities.
Administration.
- You will track daily and/or weekly documentation of progress of individuals and programs.
- You will work alongside TR team in developing and implementing Therapeutic Recreation frameworks to build sustainability and scalability.
- You will document and inform Senior Coordinators of any changes or incidents.
- You will research, plan, and implement new and innovative recreation interventions.
**What You’ll Bring**:
Education and Experience.
- It is required that you have a diploma, degree or post-graduate certificate in Therapeutic Recreation.
- It is required that you be eligible for registration or a member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) and Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) (within 6 months of start date).
- It is required that you have 1-2 years’ experience working with individuals with disabilities.
Technical Skills and Knowledge.
- You have exceptional oral and written communication skills and are comfortable presenting to large groups.
- You exhibit a high level of emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and an awareness of barriers to success, including learning limitations.
- You have effective planning, organizing and time management skills, and can work independently without close supervision.
