Waste Connections of Canada, the leader in non-hazardous solid waste management in North America is looking for an **Operations Manager** to join our team in **London, ON**. We are looking for an SAFETY inclined, energetic, autonomous and proactive team player capable of making a difference in his/her team and community.

Our London Hauling district, has an immediate opening for an **Operations Manager **to lead its hauling team. Directly reporting to the Operations Manager will be **2 supervisors and 3 dispatchers, who oversee 33 drivers. **The operations manager will oversee around **30** routes in the Commercial, Roll Off and Residential Lines Of Business.

**Summary of Functions**:
The Operations Manager plans and manages district operations effectively, ensuring the best possible service and productivity metrics are achieved. The Manager sets the tone for safety practices and ensures the team understands and follows the rules of safety which allows for success and protection of employees as well as the community at large. The Manager directs the operations team and drivers to minimize the number of missed pickups, maximize service quality, and minimize drive times while routing to a cost-effective transfer station or landfill.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Upholds and embodies the core values of Waste Connections and utilizes these core values to make sound business decisions
- Determines appropriate staffing levels, hire, terminate, recruit and performance manage employees including Route Supervisors, Dispatch and other operations personnel
- Drives safety initiatives and engages the team in a proactive accident avoidance plans
- Implements and executes all incident investigations, route cause analysis and reporting systems
- Set and support route standards for the District; Leads and develops the service standard for the District
- As required, perform re-routes of existing routes to ensure maximum efficiency and superior customer service
- Implements route audits to identify improvement measures that include productivity, safety and pricing tactics
- Oversees the execution of health and safety programs. Ensures daily operation activities are completed in compliance with all standards including environmental, operating, regulatory, safety, accounting and ethics
- Partners with District Manager to understand key business objectives and related strategies that drive desired results. Relays and communicates this information to employees while promoting moral
- Is aware of the impact of day-to-day operations and monitors the current status vs. budget (P&L, CapEx, ROIC, cash flow, accounts receivable, etc.) to gain an understanding of present performance levels to target. Manages overall Operating Cost per hour by line of business. Forecasts, develops and recommends to business unit leadership realistic and attainable action items for areas needing improvement. Manages asset utilization to increase return of capital
- Participates in the budget process, ensuring attainment of acceptable margins and annual growth
- Liaise with Union stewards and representatives to handle grievances and interacts in a method that builds and maintains a healthy and productive relationship.
- Liaise with Maintenance Department to ensure all equipment is maintained and operated in compliance with technical and safety standards. Communicate and coordinate container availability and activity with Maintenance Department
