**Position Summary**

**Salary**:$19 to $20 per hour based on experience

**As a Conservation Technician, you will be responsible for**:

- Assisting and reporting to the Northeast Alberta Natural Area Manager and working in the Beaver Hills area (e.g. east of Edmonton) and north of Edmonton;
- Conducting annual property inspections to identify stewardship actions, emerging threats, and risks and liabilities;
- Supporting compliance monitoring of conservation easements;
- Monitoring biodiversity targets (e.g., species at risk, vegetation communities) and threats (e.g., invasive species);
- Implementing recommended stewardship and management actions on NCC properties, with a focus on invasive species monitoring and removal, assisting with volunteer events, maintaining fences, installing property signs and other tasks, as required;
- Assisting with data collection, data entry, aerial photography review and reporting writing; and
- Acting as an NCC ambassador in the field including liaising with landowners, leaseholders, volunteers, partner organizations, and members of the public to inform them about NCC, its mandate and property management activities.

As a Conservation Technician, you can expect to be in the field with the Northeast Alberta Natural Area Manager or another seasonal staff member approximately 2-3 days per work week and in the office (e.g. at home or local Edmonton office) approximately 2-3 days per work week.

**Position Requirements**
- Demonstrate an interest and/or experience in performing stewardship actions (e.g., removing invasive species, fence maintenance, installing signage, and monitoring biodiversity targets) and completing monitoring duties (e.g., documenting invasive species, significant species, photography, database entry, and report preparation)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with members of the community and/or partners;
- Be enthusiastic, positive, detail oriented, adaptable and self-motivated even when not working under direct supervision;
- Be able to work from home and the local Edmonton office when needed;
- Comfortable travelling to and working in remote, outdoor settings with limited cell reception;
- Display competency with Microsoft Word and Excel, general computer skills, data management and effective writing skills;
- Work well individually and within a team environment, including with supervisors, other seasonal staff members, and volunteers;
- Demonstrate good judgment and problem-solving skills in a variety of situations (e.g., what to do if a bear is encountered);
- Have valid Standard First Aid Level C CPR and AED certification;
- Have a valid non-probationary (class 5) driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract; and
- Have a reliable vehicle and be able to drive to a central meeting location.

**Position Assets**
- Background in Alberta plant and wildlife identification including invasive species;
- Currently enrolled or recently completed post-secondary education in biology, environmental sciences, conservation, or related field;
- Experience reviewing aerial photography; and
- Experience using hand-held tools such as weed removal and fencing tools.

This can be a physically demanding job, requiring long days hiking on NCC properties - sometimes in inclement weather and through various terrains in including wetlands. Using and enhancing the knowledge gained during your education, your experience as a Conservation Technician will help conserve species habitat and other significant lands.
