Position Summary
In an environment that supports continuous improvement and under the supervision of the Assistant Chief, Education & Training, this employee is responsible for the development and implementation of an extensive Public Education Program whose goal is to assist in the reduction of community risk and the enhancement of public safety education in the City of Regina. Duties & Responsibilities
Develops and implements Public Education Programs related to Fire and Life Safety
Develops and manages strategies to provide programming to a broad section of the public, e.g. preschool, primary school, public service groups, seniors and special needs.
Creates and maintains methods and processes to evaluate fire and Life Safety program effectiveness in the community.
Maintains contact with counterparts in other municipalities and develops partnerships with individuals in organizations pertaining to fire and Life Safety issues.
Participates with the media in providing relevant information as directed and seeks out additional opportunities to utilize media in areas related to education and departmental promotion.
Plans, co-ordinates and implements special events and other projects.
Follows all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
Provides direction and support to Community Relations Platoon Support Specialists.
Performs other related duties as required and when directed. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of Municipal Government structure and operation.

Knowledge of the branch general operation, policies and standard operating procedures.
Knowledge of the general rules and regulations of the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Ability to plan, organize and initiate various programs and projects.
Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing.
Ability to work independently with setting and meeting deadlines.
Ability to establish and maintain co-operative working relationships with the public, City Officials, members of the media and fellow employees.
Ability to work extended and nonstandard hours. Education & Experience
Post-secondary education with training in one of the following areas:
The science of Fire and/or life safety
Communications
Education
Public Relations
Other Social Science fields of study
NFPA 1035 Fire and Life Safety Educator Level I & II preferred
Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience. Working/Other Conditions
Must have the means and ability to travel.
