Job Summary

The Red Fish Digital Innovation Project aims to design and implement exciting leading-edge virtual and digital care innovations to enhance the quality of care for clients experiencing serious and complex mental health and substance use challenges in all BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services (BCMHSUS) clinical programs. Under the Direction of the BCMHSUS Project Director and the UBC Behavioral Reward, Affect, and Impulsivity Neuroscience (B.R.A.I.N.) Lab, the Research Assistant (RA) will review the literature and plan a study to examine the feasibility and efficacy of virtual and digital interventions at the Red Fish Healing Centre (Red Fish), a new state-of-the-art provincial 105-bed inpatient facility providing quaternary care for clients in BC with severe mental health and substance use disorders.

Organizational Status

The project is based at the Red Fish Healing Centre in Coquitlam under the direction of the BCMHSUS Project Director and the UBC B.R.A.I.N. lab, which is responsible for ongoing place of care research at Red Fish. The RA will report directly to the BCMHSUS Project Director and work under the supervision of the BRAIN Lab Director and Research Manager. The RA collaborates with and is responsible for communications with various team members, including clinical staff, healthcare professionals and academic researchers at BCMHSUS and the UBC B.R.A.I.N. lab.

Work Performed

Project Development:
- Develops submissions for the Clinical Research Ethics Board and BCMHSUS Research Committee.- Develops and implements project proposals and protocols.- Provide support for grant proposal development, submission processes, ensuring that funding agency requirements and deadlines are met.- Responsible for writing local investigator sponsored trial project proposals and ensuring the appropriate work plans and timelines are followed by the study team.- Develops cybersecurity assessments and ensures the privacy and confidentiality of the data.- Develops standard operating procedure (SOPs) and RA manuals.

Strategic Project Leadership:
- Responsible for planning, managing and handling research processes and policies related to research projects in collaboration with the Principal Investigator and the partners (BCMHSUS, TELUS, etc.)- Set priorities to achieve the stated goals of the quality improvement and research activities and develops monthly Project Status Reports.- Meets with funding partner representatives, consultants and Steering Committee for trial initiation, maintenance and monitoring of current and future projects.- Works with the team to make decisions related to research analysis and data collection plans, team communications, and community relations; document these decisions appropriately.- Attends investigator meetings, conferences, and education/workshop sessions.- Exercises independence and initiative in the overall coordination and execution of the quality improvement and research projects.- Ensures timely notification to the Principal Investigators of issues or problems that may impact the team’s abilities to achieve project milestones and/or expected outputs. Works with the team to mitigate these issues.- Drafts and/or edits regular updates and reporting to funding partners.-
- Transmits study data to sponsors with strict adherence to privacy and confidentiality guidelines (GCP).- Acts as a key liaison with Principal Investigator, sponsors and partners (BCMHSUS).- Ensures enrolment expectations are met.- Works with the PHSA e-Mental Health
