**JOB TITLE**: Female Food & Nutrition Worker

Monday - Friday 10am - 6pm- Please note that flexibility to support at the Milton shelter, may be required from time to time, as well as flexibility to work a variation of shifts dependent on the needs of the clients.**JOB SUMMARY**

The Food and Nutrition Worker will be responsible for food purchasing, menu planning, preparation, dinner service, weekend meal preparation, storage and inventory management. She also ensures the maintenance and cleaning of kitchen and food storage facilities, as per Health & Safety, Public Health regulations as well as safe food handling expectations. The F&N Worker oversees all Kitchen inspections with the H&S representative and PH Inspector.**Responsibilities**

**_ Food and Supply Coordination_**
- Completes weekly grocery shopping in consultation with residents and staff
- Completes all purchasing within budget allowance, sourcing best price and quality for all food items.
- Cleans and stocks kitchen, dining area, pantry and storage areas including appliances and shelves according to Department of Health standards
- Coordinates with local food banks, donors, grocery services to manage ongoing food and staples inventory
- Organizes food orders and deliveries with suppliers.
- Recommends to the Client Services Supervisor the development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to the household food and nutrition coordination
- Rotate food stock according to expiry dates regularly

**_ Food Preparation_**
- Assists in preparation of special occasion events and meals
- Prepares weekly meal menus in consultation with residents and staff, ensuring cultural and dietary needs are met. Posts weekly menu schedule for residents.
- Prepares meals for residents, including children’s snack offerings.
- Plans and prepares meals for use during her absence (i.e. weekends, holidays).
- All food preparation to be carried out with cost effectiveness, food safety and minimized food waste

**_ Administration_**
- Complete accurate expense forms in a timely manner.

**_
Health & Safety; Security_**
- Adhere to all health and safety and public health policies and procedures as outlined by the organization to minimize risk
- Adhere to all safe food handling requirements and expecations
- Address daily routine duties as required for facility maintenance and safety and as assigned by Health & Safety Committee
- Use universal precautions at all times

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**
- Previous experience working with and understanding of violence against women preferred
- Experience in preparing food for a large group of people.
- Experience in menu planning and meal preparation for cultural food preferences and dietary restrictions, such as veganism or halal would be an asset.
- Training/experience with all aspects of food industry, including food safety, preparation, storage, and sanitation.
- Knowledge of food, nutrition, healthy menu planning, healthy living, and working knowledge of Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating
- Knowledge or understanding of the different dietary requirements for women and children and the impact stress may have on dietary needs
- Proven initiative and effective problem-solving ability.
- Excellent decision making and strong time management skills.
- High ethical standards and integrity consistent with agency values.
- Computer competency with ability to source information, recipes, etc. as needed
- Ability to access transportation to attend community meetings and purchase food within Halton Region, specifically Milton and Burlington.
- Ability to work in crisis situations
- Demonstrated ability to provide non-judgmental and culturally sensitive support to women and children
- Willingness to develop knowledge and skills about violence against women and its impact upon children, women, and the community
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision and as part of a team

**Education**
- Valid Safe Food Handling Certification (can be obtained upon acceptance of the position).
- High School Diploma
- Some post secondary eduation in Hospitality, Food Service or Nutrition, or an acceptable combination of education and experience, will be considered.
- Valid First Aid

**Requirements**:

- Clear step one reading of TB test is required

- Knowledge of additional languages will be considered an asset
