**Location Description**
- Winnipeg is a city of approximately 750,000 located on the Red River, 108 kms north of the US border. Being near the centre of Canada, it is a major transportation centre. The city's population is fairly diverse, representing people from many different cultures. Most of the people are English speaking with French, Filipino and Chinese being other predominant languages. There are about 65,000 First Nations people living in Winnipeg.
There are almost 50 Mennonite churches in Winnipeg, which is home to about 30,000 Mennonites. Winnipeg has two large public liberal arts universities and a Mennonite university (Canadian Mennonite University). There are also two Mennonite private high schools.
Winnipeg temperatures can range from 40°C (104°F) in summer to -45°C (-49°F) in winter, with average summer temperatures around 25.4°C (77.7°F) and average winter temperatures around -12.9°C (8.8°F).

**Qualifications**
- This position is only available to individuals aged 15 to 30, who are legally entitled to work in Canada, and have a valid Social Insurance Number. This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs and is dependent on Sam’s Place receiving said funds.**Job Synopsis**
- Sam’s Place is seeking a mature, responsible, dynamic individual who is interested in assisting with operational tasks necessary to the running of our coffeeshop. This is a 16-week term position.
Sam’s Place is a coffeeshop and general store, currently located at 159 Henderson Hwy but set to relocate to 140 Bannatyne Avenue in early Summer 2023. Sam’s Place is a Social Enterprise that is owned by Mennonite Central Committee Manitoba. It runs a Youth and Young Adult Employable Skills Program that provides opportunity for young people, often facing barriers, to develop employable skills and gain experience for their future in the work force. We offer a simple food menu, handmade craft espresso beverages, and baking. Sam’s Place also sells a wide selection of used books, locally made products, and Fairtrade goods.

The Sam’s Place Operations Assistant will be required to work 30-hours a week Monday to Saturday. They will typically work 9am to 5pm but may work earlier hours on occasion, once the coffeeshop is open.

- Qualifications:

- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age.
- Must be available 30 hours a week between Monday to Saturday until end of contract.
- Demonstrated capacity to take initiative and complete projects independently.
- Attention to detail, willingness to go the extra mile, and superior organizational skills.
- Ability to manage inventory in an efficient manner.
- Strong problem solving and counting skills.
- Customer service experience in either the food service or retail industries.
- Experience working in a team dynamic with a variety of different personalities/working styles.
- Experience working with databases and POS systems an asset.
- Supervisory or team leadership experience an asset.
- Experience working in a volunteer team an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Support the Sam’s Place Manager with operational tasks.
- Provide physical and organizational support for the relocation project. Including, cleaning out back rooms and files and preparing what will be brought to the new building.
- Help set up the coffee bar and POS equipment in the new location.
- Organize, catalogue, and showcase retail items in the physical space and the eCommerce platform, this includes rebuilding the inventory database with Squareup POS system.
- Build and maintain relationships with makers, wholesalers, and buyers.
- Develop inventory system for volunteers, manage website ordering system.
- Connect with neighbouring business and Exchange District Biz to form relationships.
- Provide support for rebrand where necessary.
- Assist with expanding social media marketing channels and presence where necessary.
- Assist with events, planning, and promotion where necessary.
- Assist with supervising the café floor and performing supervisor duties where necessary.
- Lead and teach volunteers and program participants where necessary.
- Provide support to the shop where necessary.

Physical Demand:
Able to stay on feet all day.
Able to carry and move around inventory, including boxes of books.
