Overall Accountability

The Kindergarten Assistant assists and supports students and teachers.

The Education Assistant - PUF works in the kindergarten classroom assisting students with diverse learning needs. This includes those who have severe social, emotional and communication needs. The Noon Hour Assistant provides general assistance, direction and supervision to students.

Specific Accountabilities
- Prepares materials, constructs and assembles displays, duplicates and distributes materials
- Motivates and encourages students to participate in learning activities
- Assists with special events and activities
- Leads children in activities and assists in demonstrations
- Assists students individually and in small groups to achieve curriculum programming
- Assists students’ self-care (dressing, toileting, etc.)
- Assists with assessment and data tracking
- Provides general supervision of students during out of class time
- Assists in planning and supervising field trips
- Performs clerical duties as required including: photocopying, typing, computer data entry, phoning, bulletin boards, preparing charts, and teaching materials
- Contributes to class planning activities, behaviour and progress reviews
- Assists with the implementation of Learner Support and other response plans
- Assists students during school celebrations, liturgical events, services and attendance at Mass at local parishes

**Qualifications**:

- Category 2 - High School Diploma
- Category 3 - Diploma/certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution or the equivalent of a minimum of one (1) year post-secondary course study preferred
- Ability to speak and read English fluently
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Aptitude for creativity and adaptability
- May require any of the following depending upon assignment:

- Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certificates
- Behaviour management training
- Lifting techniques
- Rehabilitation experience
- Restrictive intervention practices
