The Town of Ponoka is currently recruiting for a permanent full-time (1.0 FTE) Equipment Operator 2 in the Operations Department.

**Position Summary**

The Equipment Operator 2 reports to the Public Works Foreman, and works with colleagues in the Operations Department to provide quality services to internal and external customers. The team’s work will collectively support the Vision of the Town of Ponoka: To be a thriving community with a hometown feel.

This position supports the team by performing the duties normally assigned to an Equipment Operator 1, and may additionally be required to operate and perform routine maintenance on moderately heavy mobile equipment engaged in construction and maintenance of roads, water and sewer systems, and waste management activities.

**Typical Duties and Responsibilities**

1. Perform the duties and responsibilities normally assigned to an Equipment Operator 1 by:

- Operating and performing routine maintenance on light mobile equipment engaged in public works, parks, and recreation facilities.
- Providing routine janitorial and building maintenance duties.
- Operating and maintaining ice making and servicing equipment in the arena complex and in outdoor areas as required.
- Operating and maintaining sprayers, mowers, and other equipment used in park and boulevard maintenance.
- Performing general labouring duties as the need arises.

2. Operate and perform routine maintenance on moderately heavy mobile equipment engaged in construction and maintenance of roads, water and sewer systems, and waste management activities by:

- Following approved operating procedures.
- Completing routine equipment maintenance.
- Following mandated safety rules and regulations.
- Recording maintenance and repairs and complying with maintenance schedules.
- Identifying equipment problems and/or potential problems requiring correction.

**Minimum Requirements**

Four years of directly related experience

- Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Valid Class 3 Operators License with air brake endorsement

**Competencies**
- **Knowledge**:_
- In depth knowledge of the operation and maintenance of moderately heavy equipment like crawlers, front-end loaders, snow ploughs, snow blowers, trucks, rubber-tired tractors and other similar road building and maintenance equipment.
- General knowledge of the operation and maintenance of small mobile equipment.
- General knowledge of ice-making and ongoing maintenance of ice surfaces.
- General knowledge of grass and tree maintenance.
- General knowledge of building cleaning and maintenance.
- Some knowledge of refrigeration plants would be helpful.
- General knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
- **Additional Skills**:_
- Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of moderately heavy mobile public works equipment.
- Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of small mobile equipment
- Ability to clean and maintain facilities to an acceptable public use standard
- Ability to perform building maintenance duties
- Ability to work effectively with the public
- Ability to work flexible hours in all kinds of weather

**Recruitment**
