**WHAT YOU'LL DO**

The primary role of the newly created position of Occupational Health & Safety Advisor is to promote a safe and healthy workplace. The goal is to develop a safety culture for the facility and ensure that all employees understand that all accidents and injuries are preventable. The Health & Safety Advisor will achieve this goal by being present in the field to mentor, coach and train employees to work safely. Make safety contacts each day with different employees to understand the challenges or obstacles they may face during their day. Develop safe procedures to overcome these obstacles and challenges.

**Responsibilities**:

- Promote a safety culture among employees
- Respond to employees’ concerns and inquiries
- Coach, mentor and train employees how to work safely
- Review current SOPs, ensuring they comply with and meet safety standards.
- Assist in developing and updating safety manuals and policies
- Conduct safety inspections and audits regularly to complete safety weekly/month-end stats
- Assist in creating, developing and delivering safety awareness program/campaign
- Assist in developing a Rail safety training program
- Assist in accident/incident investigations
- Participate in safety meetings and provide options for safety compliance
- Conduct site inspections and review site safety inspection reports.
- Obtain an Advanced OFA certificate (previously OFA Level 3)
- Maintain details of all safety-related issues ensuring safety documentation is completed to maintain CSO certifications.

**Must haves**:

- Valid driver’s license
- A current CSO certification
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Health and Safety
- Knowledge of Return-to Work programs for injured workers
- Understanding of current regulations, bylaws, and utility protections.
- Experience in implementing health and safety management systems, programs, and tools in an operations environment.
- Understanding of occupational hygiene concepts and principles for oversight purposes.
- Some experience specifically related to operations supervision, auditing, and event analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to be innovative and strategic, initiate and lead change, work collaboratively, negotiate, influence, facilitate, solve problems, make decisions, work independently, prioritize, and deliver results.
- Proven interpersonal, communication, writing and digital literacy.
- Ability to work with diverse, authentic people.

**Even better if you have**:

- Certification or in process of attaining a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent.
- Understanding of fleet and driver safety programs.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, training and coaching/mentoring skills.
