**) Faculty, Ecological Restoration** to teach in the Ecological Restoration program. This position will teach
- **ECOR**This course focuses on scientific study of the physical environment, with an emphasis on its effects on living organisms and their restoration. We will examine concepts of rivers and their attributes; inland waters and limnology; geomorphology; and terrestrial processes. Through lecture and field experiences, students will become familiar with physical and chemical processes in water, especially those that have a direct effect on biological organisms. Field sessions outside of scheduled class time will be required. Topics include:
- River processes and channel geomorphology: river channel and catchment, river sediment system, coupling and connectivity in river basin sediment systems, channel adjustment: concepts of change, river channel geomorphology and tools to manage channels and flood plains, the role of river classification and typology in river management, river sedimentation processes; flood plain interactions and riparian habitat, restoration techniques;
- Lake processes and limnology: science of limnology and its multidisciplinary nature, and the complex issues affecting modem water resource management, fluxes of nutrients and materials to and within lakes, pelagiid and littoral zones and their dynamics; sediments and paleolimnology, eutrophication and heavy metal pollution, structure and dynamics of major plant and animal communities;
- Terrestrial processes: soil classification and properties, analyses of the origin of soil erosion, analyses of the origin of soil erosion, soil erosion and control; basic definition and classification of erosion according to factor, form and intensity, protection from erosion, erosivity of precipitations; soil erodibility as a function of soil property (inherent) and soil utilization, anti-erosion measures—characteristics, selection, localization, parameterization, bio geoclimatic classification system for BC terrestrial habitats.

- **Master of Science (MSc) in Ecological Restoration **is a North America leader in this emerging discipline. The program provides graduates with a world-class knowledge in the science, and applied and technical skills needed to restore a broad range of degraded ecosystems. The program has been designed to advance the science and practice of ecological restoration.- The MSc in Ecological Restoration is offered jointly between BCIT and Simon Fraser University. Students work with our Faculty and industry partners on a wide range of applied restoration projects, thereby gaining experience in addressing many current environmental challenges. Graduates have an excellent track record of securing positions with consulting companies, nonprofit organizations, as well as all levels of government including First Nations.- This course could be taught by two applicants (team teach) with the required foundation to meet the learning objectives mentioned above. **QUALIFICATIONS***:
**Minimum Qualifications**:
- PhD in ecological restoration, hydrology, geomorphology, soil science, physical geography, or a related discipline (see the course description for specific areas of expertise).
- Minimum of three years of experience in water, soils, geomorphology, or related physical science.
- Knowledge and experience working in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems in British Columbia.
- Experience designing and implementing a range of assessments, including for instance terrain, soils, watershed, stream morphology, hydrology, limnology, water quality.
- Excellent communication (including technical writing), organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collegial environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, which are needed to effectively manage the dynamic conditions and logistics associated with our applied programs.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the post-secondary and graduate level in both classroom and field settings.
- Knowledge of and experience with the principles of ecological restoration/environmental management within the abiotic world.
- Experience designing and implementing management treatments focused on topics such as mitigating soil erosion, or restoring hydrological conditions.
