Farrell’s Excavating has been providing service in the heavy civil industry of Newfoundland since its incorporation over 30 years ago. We play a major role in the completion of many large government and municipal projects that involve the building and paving of many of the province's main highways and rural roads. Our experience, resources, equipment and highly skilled & trained workforce continue to lead us into a future of exponential growth within our industry. This position will be based out of St. John's, Newfoundland, and travel will be required.

Farrell’s has and will be expanding its fleet of GPS indicate, GPS robotic and mmGPS robotic machine-controlled heavy equipment. These systems require RTK GPS/mm transmitter units to be set up and running during the entirety of a piece of machinery’s operation. To correctly maintain and utilize this equipment, a successful hire would need to be able to adapt to a rapidly evolving digital environment on many heavy civil construction projects.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education in a heavy construction-related trade (Civil, Geomatics, etc.).
- Operation of GNSS survey equipment, with some minor use of pipe lasers and optic levels.
- Professional construction survey experience including but not limited to site set-up, stake-lathe layout, existing conditions data gathering, as-built survey, and data management.
- Proficient in Autodesk Civil 3d in both 2d and 3d environments.
- Excellent file/data management skills.
- Standard knowledge in MS Office, pdf editors, file management, and other standard office software.
- Able to fully read and interpret project plans and specifications.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver licence and provide a clean driver abstract.
- 2+ years experience in heavy civil surveying from project conceptualization to close-out.

**Duties include, but are not limited to, the following**:

- Set-up GNSS units from geodetic or other control monuments over sites of varying complexity and size.
- Layout of civil related construction elements on worksites using GNSS and traditional methods.
- Conduct survey work including topo and auto-topo, site service as-builts, change order layout etc.
- Create basic 3d models within Autodesk Civil 3d from vector PDF’s, original source DWG files, or from field survey data.
- Perform calibrations on machine control motor graders and upload design files.
- Import/Export data for Machine control and field survey layout following a standard across all projects.
- Rapidly adjust design 3d models in the field, based on RFI’s scope changes or other directives.
- Compute results in Civil 3d for bulk earthworks analysis on stockpiles, progress of an active construction sites and quarry operations.
