**Position Summary**

Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Fire and Emergency Services, the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator plays a central role in developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating emergency preparedness activities for Seabird Island Band. This person will deal with emergency responses, to ensure adequate communication with Seabird and with outside agencies, and preparedness that includes fully developed evacuation plans and readiness.

This is a term position and will end August 1, 2024, with a possibility of extension.

**What you’ll do**

Emergency preparedness:

- Build a database of people in need of assistance to evacuate - e.g., Elders, single parents with young children etc.
- Develop response plans for various potential emergency situations - flood, fire, pipeline spill, etc.
- Build relationships to support an evacuation need - mutual host agreements with other communities etc.
- Develop an emergency evacuation strategy for a community of 1000 people, including destination options, transportation, community block leaders and muster points, provisions, key support positions etc.
- Provide community training and drills regarding emergency responses for various situations.
- Implement an evacuation plan.

Other:

- Assist in responding to security issues.
- Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of Seabird Island Band.
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Manager, Director, ED or Chief & Council.

**What you bring**

**Education**:

- Post-secondary education and certification in medical services, disaster and emergency management, or emergency services.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ demonstrated project experience with First Nations preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of emergency preparedness activities and legislation, workplace hazards, and community emergency preparedness.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the design of emergency plans and community engagement and empowerment activity.

**Skills**:

- Strong planning, analytical and organizational skills with systematic and logical work style.
- Ability to project emergency response needs, adjust priorities as required and meet expectations that serve the needs of community in a time of crisis or disaster.
- Impeccable attention to detail, high level of accuracy.
- Excellent skills in budget and financial management.
- Excellent communication (written and oral), active listening and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-motivated and independent, comfortable with enlisting the skills and time of others in time of crisis or disaster.
- Strong research and analytical skills including problem solving methodologies.
- Demonstrated superior attention to detail, time management, organizational, planning, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Highly organized with excellent time management ability.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal abilities, including negotiation skills.
- Ability to adhere to an Oath of Confidentiality agreement, Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedures.
- Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5 & clean Driver’s Abstract (Required for any business travel or SIB vehicle usage).
- Satisfactory Ministry of Justice Vulnerable Criminal Record Check.
