This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. NOVA Chemicals’ Technical Procurement is a matrix organization focuses and resourced on four core competencies: Strategic Procurement, Contract Management, Procurement Operations and Procurement Projects. We are seeking a Contract Specialist, to join our Technical and Corporate Procurement Contracts Team to provide the necessary contract formation primarily on significant service contracts across the organization.
This position is accountable for performing all activities involved with bidding, evaluating, and committing contracts for several monetary expenditure or risk, engineering technical specifications, or supplementary commercial conditions and related procurement activities within NOVA Chemicals’ defined policies, procurement processes, and NOVA Chemicals’ corporate SAP system.

**You Will Use Your Expertise To**:
The Contracts Specialist is responsible for a wide variety of contracting duties including the full Bid, Evaluate and Award (BEA) cycle in addition to drafting contracts, change orders, change order requests and interagency agreements; preparing bidding documents and conducting bidding processes; ensuring all legal, insurance and bonding requirements are met prior to contract execution; preparing reports; recording documents; maintaining the contract log and filing system; and working with project managers to administer active contracts. The Contracts Specialist works independently on assigned contracting tasks with general guidance from the Contracts leader.
The Contract Specialist facilitates construction and professional and general services: RFP, and Invitation to Bid processes; scheduling; noticing; assembling bid documents; pre-bid meetings and bid openings; and preparation of contracts. Work is performed in a professional office setting and in a team environment.
The Contract Specialist applies contracting fundamentals from contract strategy development through execution and close-out, including but not limited to:
Pricing considerations, escalation provisions, incentives, etc. Understanding union and project labour agreement rates.
Understanding planning, requisitioning, and contracting modules on the project.
Performs administration of contracts following commitments involving higher monetary expenditure or risk, more complex engineering technical specifications, or supplementary commercial conditions.
Identifies and resolves client issues, including compliance and consistency issues.
Administer various contracts of varying value issued in support of the ongoing business and manage the relationships with those contract companies. Administration includes summarizing the key contractual terms, securing the necessary documents from the contracted parties, and resolving any discrepancies that may arise.
Review third party invoices to ensure compliance with the contracted terms and notify the invoice approvers and Accounts Payable of any issues or concerns with an invoice.
Actively participate in Project meetings, Contract Management Team meetings and Project Task meetings, when appropriate and prepare documents and key communications for meetings as required.
Maintain Change Order logs and issue Change Notices and participate in the evaluation of Change Order Requests that may be received from the contracted parties and advise the appropriate Contract Management and Project team of changes to PO or contract, as required.
Assist with foreign worker requirements as requested by the Project Procurement Coordinators.
Manage the project close-out of all Procurement documents.
Work collaboratively with NOVA’s Technical and Corporate Procurement function to ensure effective leveraging of skills, supplier relationship management and workload balancing.
