**Our Team**:
Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

The Geology Team is integral for Vale’s short-term and long-term operating strategy. Members of this teamwork across different locations to ensure life of mine support and sustainability. Team members are also involved in the development of geological initiatives, practices and procedures.

**The Opportunity**

We are currently seeking **Geologist / Geological Engineering Summer Students **to join our **NAPG Sudbury Mines Engineering Department **in **Sudbury, ON **. These are fixed term positions, 4 months duration, starting in May 2023.

Additionally, in this position you will:

- Attend and participate in daily safety line up meetings, and monthly safety meetings and required safety training.
- Communicate changes in ore interpretation to diamond drill geologists.
- Identify, analyze, and recommend opportunities for safety, productivity, and cost improvements.
- Support the planning definition diamond drill programs and complete diamond drill layouts.
- Ensure drill core logging and processing standards are consistent and meet Vale’s quality assurance and quality control standards.
- Update lithological, structural, and mineral resource interpretations to support mineral resource estimation and reporting.
- Organize and maintain a database according to company standards.
- Tracking of project activities including drill metres, hours, costs, core logging, sampling, and test results.
- Prepare technical reports and summary presentations.
- Support the day-to-day activities of drilling contractors providing them with technical feedback and assistance.
- Ensure compliance and conformance of our definition/exploration drill activities through site visits and inspections.
- Operate and assist in the basic maintenance of equipment (vehicles, UTV, computers, computer peripherals, printers, etc.)
- Participate in all pre-operating inspections, workplace inspections, contractor engagement meeting, toolbox meetings and safety meetings.
- Maintain a clean work environment.
- Follow safety policies, procedures, best practices, and government regulations always.
- Travel to mine sites and underground travel will be required.
- Current schedule is 5 days per week Monday to Friday 8 hours per day (excluding recognized holidays)

**About You**

**Education**:

- Currently enrolled in a Geology or Geological Engineering undergraduate program

**Requirements**:

- Must be physically capable of handling 300’-500’ of diamond drill core per day
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 products; Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Basic proficiency with a 3-D software, Datamine, and Deswick preferred.
- Valid Class G Driver’s License is mandatory.
- Must be located within the Greater Sudbury region.
