**Position Overview**:
- Experience: 2-5+ years of logistics experience with a focus on rail and intermodal transportation, ideally within a 3PL/4PL logistics environment
- Expertise: Deep understanding of rail and intermodal logistics, including the use of various equipment types such as dry, temperature-controlled, and specialized equipment
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with customers, carriers, drivers, and the Shippers First Logistics team
- Relationships: Established relationships with industry stakeholders and proven ability to source and negotiate with carriers for optimal rates and service
- Environment: Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities with strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to finding solutions and negotiating effectively
- Geographical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of US and Canadian rail systems, including regulatory requirements, mileage, and transit times
- Performance Management: Capability to meet and exceed performance targets while proactively preventing service issues
- Negotiation: Skillful use of negotiation tactics to support transportation strategy
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Rail and Intermodal Operations: Manage daily rail and intermodal operations, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating shipments to ensure timely delivery
- Carrier Coordination: Work closely with rail carriers and intermodal providers to secure and optimize transportation solutions
- Route Optimization: Develop strategies to enhance route efficiency, reduce transit times, and minimize costs
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company procedures for rail and intermodal transportation
- Issue Resolution: Address and resolve any issues related to rail and intermodal shipments, including delays and discrepancies
- Documentation: Prepare and manage necessary documentation for cross-border rail shipments and maintain accurate records
- Capacity Management: Source additional rail and intermodal capacity during peak periods or recovery situations
- Customer Interaction: Serve as the primary contact for customers regarding rail and intermodal shipments, providing timely updates and resolving any concerns
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to process enhancements in rail and intermodal logistics
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and handle tight deadlines with mínimal supervision.
