Kelowna, Canada Interior Health Authority Full time

Interior Health (IH) is hiring a Student, Plant Services (Co-op or Non-Coop) to join the Plant Services department. This position is based out of Kelowna Warehouse (Reid’s Corner). This position is until approximately May 2025.

The student is a participant in a post-secondary program, preferably a 2nd year student or better with a concentration in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene (OEH) studies or a graduate from the two year Occupational Health & Safety diploma program.

**What will you work on?**

The student will provide assistance to the Plant Services Leadership team to help complete established objectives while the student receives an understanding of the responsibility and regulations that Leadership and staff are required to adhere to on a consistent basis.

Some Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Works with the Director of Plant Services to complete a series of projects

3. The student will be required to interact with other Plant Services and Workplace Health & Safety department staff, including clinical when required

4. The student may be assigned to review all Plant Services documented safety procedures and confirm these are in compliance with current safety standards and upgrade if required

5. The student may be assigned to create compliant documented safety procedures for those procedures that are undocumented at this time

6. The student may assist in inspecting sites to ensure they have the required signage in place where necessary i.e.: hearing, lock out tag out, confined space, install where required

7. The student may assist in developing a safety handbook for all Plant Services employees

8. The student may assist in preparing and presenting power point presentations on new and upgraded procedures

9. Must be willing to travel throughout the Interior Health region

Education, Training and Experience:

- Enrollment in post-secondary program, preferably a 2nd year student or better with a concentration in OEH studies.
- Graduate of 2 year Occupational Health & Safety program from BCIT or similar from other provinces.
- Current valid Class 5 driver’s license required.

You are required to hold a valid BC Driver’s License and may be required to drive a personal car on mileage and /or be assigned a fleet vehicle as a condition of employment.”_

Skills and Abilities:

- Working knowledge of B.C. Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and the Work Safe Act.
- Capable of working with limited supervision and able to exercise initiative and sound judgment
- Must have the confidence to communicate directly with front line workers
- Must be willing to travel within the Interior Health region
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent computer skills, word, excel & power point
- A valid class 5 driver’s license is required
