**SUMMARY**
This position requires an Audiologist who is a transdisciplinary thinker providing integrated programs for children with complex developmental disorders. Your leadership and interpersonal skills are important to provide clinical guidance to other professionals as needed. You will use your clinical expertise to interpret the results, establish appropriate intervention plans to manage and reduce the functional impact of hearing loss, provide counselling regarding hearing loss and the need of intensive speech therapy. You will provide clients, their care takers and other professionals with information and recommendations, making referrals to other agencies and professionals as required.
The Audiologist will travel to 5 KO communities for one week four times a year and will utilize telemedicine to provide follow up, consultation, teaching and reassessment when not in the communities. Travel to Thunder Bay and Red Lake will also be required at least once every year.
The Audiologist reports directly to and works under the administrative supervision of the Jordan's Principle Coordinator.
**ACCOUNTABILITY**
- DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer and interpret diagnostic tests such as Pure Tone Testing, Speech Testing, Tympanometry, Acoustic Reflex Testing, ABR and OAEs
- Determine the nature and extent of hearing problems, effects on comprehension, communication and speech and language in children
- Discuss test results with clients, help parents/caretakers select appropriate hearing aids or assistive listening devices.
- Create, develop, and design treatment plans.
- Recommend and provide hearing assistive technology systems (HATS)
- Maintains patient files by recording, updating evaluations, progress, and treatments
- Counsel parents/care takers about hearing health and the possible need for treatment.
- Evaluate and manage children with central auditory processing disorders
- Client-centered, evidence-based approach to health care
- Collaborate with other professionals such as SLPs, OTs, PTs etc.
- Cultural competence and compassion to show care and concern for patients, encourage involvement of individuals and families in the plan of care, and understand the impact of cultural and linguistic variables
- Demonstrate exceptional patient care in accordance with provincial statutes
- Implement school-based hearing screening and conservation programs.
- RISK MANAGEMENT
- Work with the communities to Identify and evaluate the risks to the programs (clients, staff, volunteers), and assist the communities to implement measures to control and minimize risks

- Reports incidents, accidents, and unusual activity, immediately
- SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in and accept supervision/feedback from the Health Director
- OTHER DUTIES
- Accepts other duties as may be assigned
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATION**
- Must be sensitive to the cultural traditions of the Keewaytinook Okimakanak people
- Experience working with First Nation communities
- Proven leadership abilities, including accountability, and work-habits
- Experience and skills working in a political environment
- Experience in collecting and reporting statistics
- Knowledge of the complex multi-layered structure of health and social program targeted to children with developmental delays or disabilities and their families
- Masters of Audiology
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) is mandatory.
- Experience performing appropriate hearing tests
- Effective decision making and leadership qualities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstration and oral presentation abilities.
- Ability to understand, speak or write any of the community dialects is considered an asset.
