**Your role**

Radio-Canada is seeking a national reporter for its Edmonton office. You will be required to work on multiple platforms, filing stories for digital, radio and/or television as needed. In addition to having proven storytelling skills on all media platforms, you must be able to work effectively in a continuous news environment and produce impact journalism. You must be independent, resourceful, and able to find and pitch your own stories of national interest.

This position requires tenacity and strong understanding of the Alberta landscape and the Western Canada to cover social, political and economic issues with clarity, depth and accuracy. You bring good knowledge of Canadian current affairs, as well as a contact network allowing you to contribute to original, high-impact journalism in the public interest.

You will produce content on a daily basis, sometimes working long and unpredictable hours. You will also have demonstrated an ability to engage audiences through social media.

**Function**:
On a continuing and regular basis, perform reporting and editorial assignments for online, radio, and television, which involve the gathering, writing and presentation of information related to national issues in Alberta and regional issues judged to be of national import. Work will adhere to CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices.

**Key tasks**:

- Gather and research information on issues of national significance from a variety of local, provincial and/or national sources.
- Regularly report on air and produce reports/articles for digital platforms, describing events and issues of national significance, and providing in-depth analysis to enhance our audience’s understanding.
- Work closely with network program personnel and others in the planning and execution of coverage of significant national events, either for national information programs or specials.
- Recognize issues of significance and take immediate and effective action to ensure an appropriate level of coverage.
- Be willing to be sent on assignment outside Edmonton, on a few hours’ notice, to cover major stories.
- University degree or equivalent
- Seven (7) years of comparable and relevant experience, demonstrating proven ability in the field and knowledge of the broadcasting industry
- Solid knowledge of provincial and national current events
- Experience covering elections and reporting from the field
- Flexibility to perform other tasks such as using specialized equipment in the field
- Solid understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada Journalistic Standards and Practices
- Knowledge of Radio-Canada news and information programming on all platforms
- Valid driver’s licence and passport
- Willingness to work weekends and evenings
- Ability to communicate story and production ideas effectively
- Energy and discipline with strong organizational skills demonstrating an ability to initiate stories and meet deadlines
- Familiarity with digital tools
- Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with fellow reporters, producers and technicians at the Edmonton bureau
- Superior French-language skills
