Machinist Apprentice

S&R Sawmills has a long history of Custom Cutting in the Lower Mainland. We are a family run business that was established in 1963 and currently have a workforce of over 300 employees on a large strip of the Fraser River. Employee safety is the highest priority with experience, knowledge and hard work being the backbone for many years.
We are looking for a dedicated, team-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is safety conscious and interested in a long-term career with us. This role is a full-time, permanent position which includes a benefits package and pension plan.
**Role Description**:
Reporting to the Head Machinist, Machinist Apprentice employees are responsible for manufacturing and repairing sawmill equipment, using manual lathes, milling machines, radial arm drills, gear machines and more.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Operation of manual lathes, milling machines, boring mills, radial arm drills, gear machines and more
- Finished part inspection to ensure sizing is correct
- Use of overhead hoists for loading and unloading parts into machines
- Routine machine preventative maintenance
- Maintain work area cleanliness and organization
- Work with provided samples and sketches to produce new parts
- Work in a safe manner following all Safe Work Procedures
- Correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Identify, protect, and report safety hazards to management or a member of the safety committee
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
**Qualifications, Experience and Skills**:
- Red Seal Machinist or Machinist Apprenticeship will be considered.
- Sawmill experience is an asset but not required.
- Actively pursuing a career as a machinist
- Mechanical aptitude and strong math skills
- Physical demands require lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- A strong capacity for teamwork
- Good communication skills and strong command of the English language, both written and verbal
- A willingness to learn and take direction
- Safety first attitude
- Shifts are Tuesday to Saturday, 7:00am - 3:30pm
