Youth Advocate

**Reports To**: Program Manager, CHEW
**Hours**: 12:00 - 5:pm, 25 hours per week. Weekend availability is required for this role.

In collaboration between Boyle Street Community Services, University of Alberta’s Fyrefly Institute and Youth Empowerment Support Services, CHEW Outpost (Community Health Empowerment and Wellness) is committed to providing a safe space for youth between 14-29 years of age in efforts to promote the health and wellness within self-identified goals. The Youth Advocate will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the site with potential for outreach responsibilities as needed.

**Position Responsibilities**
- Preparation, maintenance, and oversite of daily site activities. This includes ensuring safety for all staff, clients, and community members on site.
- Building relationships and supporting youth towards self-identified health and wellness goals and/or crisis stabilization.
- Oversight and distribution of supplies.
- Create and implement social and recreation-based activities.
- Engage with various cultures and practices, including smudging and other traditional ceremonies.
- Intensive collaborative relationships are critical to this role, including internal and external partners through BSCS, YAC and the C5.
- Maintaining accurate and timely documentation.
- BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.
**Qualifications**
- In Depth understanding of 2SLGBTQ2IA+ identities and unique supports required by this community is required.
- Diploma or Bachelors degree in Social Work, Child and Youth care or similar education, is an asset.
- Valid de-escalation training is required.
- Knowledge on local resources, harm reduction practice, naloxone use and trauma informed care are considered an asset.
- Access to a reliable vehicle and drivers license.
- Must be willing to work evenings and weekends, as needed, to meet the needs of the community.
- Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
- Valid First Aid certificate
- Experience with and knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies is considered an asset.
